help! squealing 1.4mpi 8v

Featured Replies

hi does anyone know what could be wrong with my faithful fabia. it squeals when high revs only when accelerator is pressed. have changed the alternator belt and is not that or the pulley. it feels like it has a lack of power too.

Does it have A/C or not?

no air con

Might be the aux belt roller. I changed mine. Part number 047145276 for non-AC cars.

If you change it, beware that the retaining bolt is left-hand thread and needs Loctite on it when refitting.

I ran the engine when I had the belt off and it still made the same noise? does that rule out that?

Oh right, yes it rules it out.....and the water pump and alternator.

I wonder if it's an air leak whistle.

how would I check that?

Are the vacuum and breather pipes OK? And the servo pipe?

I shall go look

Another easy way to check for an air leak is get someone to hold it at the revs to make it squeal and then spray wd40 around all of the vacuum pipes and inlet manifold. If it stops for a second you have an air leak and you can narrow it down quickly.
