Windows Media Player - CD ripping

Featured Replies

I have been trying to rip a cd to transfer to the SD card in use in my Superb, but WMP can't find the album and track info, I have had to manually edit the information in before ripping. I haven't done this for a while but it always used to find the album info and populate the fields prior to ripping, googling this doesn't seem to give any reason why it doesn't work except for checking various settings, which I have done.

Does anyone have any pointers to save me having to type in all track names each time. I am using Windows 7 home premium and the media player version 12. Or is there another way to get the CD ripped to my PC for transfer to the SD card?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

WMP relies on another user having already ripped that exact CD and entered the data for them, so if you're the first person to rip that CD (and be sharing your data with M$) then you have to enter all the track info and find the album artwork.

I often have to do this especially with newly released albums.

Try CDex rather than WMP.

It can access a database of CDs and if yours is in there it'll pull down the track info for you.

Downloaded cdex but it couldn't find the slbum info, it's the latest Now That's What I Call Music 99 so nothing too obscure. Thanks for the pointer, I'll just have to put the tracks in manually

I used to find Now Albums to be problematic with the tagging, because they had usually already been faked before the genuine CD release - which my kids appreciated a lot, they always had the new Now album at school weeks before anyone else.

This meant the online tags available were often from the original album tracks or singles, not the Now compilation - hence the details, including track number, were all wrong.

Best off doing your own manual Tag edit for each track. I used freeware mp3tag.

I use dbpoweramp for all ripping/tagging & batch file conversion..saves loads of problems & time...

I've had the same issue with the Now CD's when ripping them for my daughter as well as with Ed Alleyne Johnson ones.  I think some artists / labels are better at getting the info available than others...
