Easiest way to replace engine, 2000 octavia 1.8t

Featured Replies

Hi

My nephew has a 2000 octiva 1.8T that has totally died, suspected timing belt failure or something. However, he has a great identical engine from a parts  car, so he has asked me if i could swap it. I never dealt with skodas before, but i assume it should be doable.

After looking at his car, it seems to me the easiest way is to drop the crossmember/subframe/suspension down, lift the car up, pull out the subframe and replace the engine on it and back in.

Lifting the car and such isnt a problem, so this seems easier to me than trying to take out just the engine, getting everything loosened and lift the engine up seems to be very fickly cuz of lack of free space.

However, since i dont know anything about these cars, i would love to have some thoughs and suggestions to this, so i dont create more work than needed for myself. Anything to remember, anything specialy tricky, do's and donts are also welcome.

Thanks in advance

Bump,

As im feeling generous ;)
