Anyone with a SE Tec, can I insert a sim card?

Featured Replies

I have the 1.0 SE Tech on order and wanting to know can I insert a sim card into the Amundsen system it to operate the GPS and infotainment online services? I would rather that, than having to turn the hotspot on my phone every time.

Only way I think you can do it is to use a 3G/4G USB stick as there is no sim slot in the Amundsen unit.

Dam would have been nice if i could, I have a EE car stick anyway that i canceled a few months back.

Assuming you have and Apple or Android phone,  just connect it via cable to the usb port and enable Airplay or Android Auto. Google Maps (and even Apple Maps) are far better than the built-in Navigation. Airplay and AA is also great for playing music as it integrates many of the phones most useful Apps with the cars touchscreen.

Sorry Orville, but I have to disagree to some extent I find the maps/navigation pretty good and always have from my Octavia days, I am not saying they are bar far the best, but not bad at all, and the latest system seems lightning quick to my '15 plate Octavia Amundsen system !!

Worth noting that even if you used a 4G stick / dongle, you wouldn't be able to use any remote Skoda connect features with the SE Tech Amundsen system as the car's connection to the hotspot disconnects when you turn of the ignition.

I have to agree, both me and wifey agreed how much better and impressed we are with the maps, especially compared to our old Leon, just a shame it doesn’t show speed cameras, but your right it’s fast.

Don't get me wrong - the built-in maps are newer and faster than those within my 4-year Octavia, but IMO Google maps are better at avoiding traffic, are more accurate/recent, and offer more sensible routing options. For example, the inbuilt navigation regularly directs me to to exit a local motorway slip-road, only to rejoin the same motorway after reaching the roundabout. I guess it measures it as the shorter distance. My wife prefers using Apple Maps.

It's great to have multiple mapping options. My suggestion is to try all of them and pick whichever suits you best.

+1. My preferred option now is Waze via Android Auto. Aside from the live re-routing, speed limits are shown and bong when exceeded.

Yep, for me it's google maps all the way. Skoda maps too cluttered, Waze a bit too buggy, Apple maps wrong too often.

Saying all that, they'll all get you from a-b. Choice is king.
