Checking alloy wheel run-out

Featured Replies

Had a fun few hours checking how round my wheels are.

I managed to buy a spare set of 18" Thermistos for 25 quid. Knowing two of my original wheels were out of round I figured I could find four round wheels out of the eight.

I bought a cheap dial indicator and stand from Aliexpress (under 20 quid delivered) and set to work on the 'bare wheels'.

Out of the first four measured I got two good wheels, one borderline and one 'out of spec'.

A quick trip to the tyre shop, a few swaps and I have now checked six of the eight and have 4 on the car that are round, success!

Of course ;O)))

I'll actually try and sell them (with full disclosure on condition) in the local auction site, and if that fails I'll keep the '5th best one' as a spare and scrap the rest.
