Clicking noise when turning

Featured Replies

I've had a clicking noise that occurs when I turn my steering wheel whilst moving, usually happens going round roundabouts at a moderate speed. Sounds like its coming from the front end on either or both sides depending on which way I'm turning. I tried changing the droplinks and repairing my CV boot which provided a temporary fix for this problem but it ends up coming back after about a day or so.

Any suggestions as to of what it might be?

Does it happen in both directions or only one?

Taking a guess at a CV joint here, but I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable will be in the thread soon.

Used to get this all the time on my 2004 Audi A6.  It basically ate CV boots for breakfast - I went through about 3 in 3 years (the car did get heavy miles though)

You said "repaired" the boot.  Did you Replace them both?  If so, it could be the CV joint (or both of them) itself.  When were they last replaced?

Good question, not sure if they even have been replaced to be honest, shall do some investigation. Otherwise I don't think they're very expensive to replace. Cheers.

Happens both ways :'(

Sounds like CV's to me. If repairing the boot helped, it might just have squeezed a little of the grease back into the joint for a while. You can drive ages with a worn CV but can also have a sudden no go scenario!
