Glow plug light

Featured Replies

Firstly hello to you all..

I have been the owner of a Superb for almost 48 hours now and although I love everything about the car.. my frustration at the old EML light and the glow plug light coming on hours after buying the car has left a very sour taste in my mouth.

I thought long and hard about my choice of car and chose the Skoda based on reputation.. that is now in the balance.. I have a P2563 code and the old limp mode... I hope I can resolve this... any advice???

The P2563 code means a problem with the boost sensor going faulty or the variable geometry turbo itself having a problem (stuck vanes, soot clogging). Had this problem with a second hand BMW I bought and like you, happened within a few days.

The fix in my case was to bring in straight back to where I bought it and have it sorted and that's what I think you should be doing first thing on Monday.

Mine had to get a new Turbo but that is not always the case (sensor and/or broken wires are possible).

You should tell the forum the age, mileage and the diesel engine that you have - and maybe where you got the car and what you know of the maintenance history.

Some P2563 info here (you may already know all this!) : P2563 OBD-II Trouble Code - Turbocharger Boost Control

I can only echo what has been said above.

This could potentially be an expensive fix, your efforts at this stage should be to take the car back to where you bought it from.

Sticky turbo actuators are a common problem, especially on older, higher mileage cars. Long life servicing, incorrect oil, short journey's, sedate driving etc. can all contribute to premature failure.

Good luck.

Thank you for your replies.. my car is a 2010 2.0 diesel with 116k on the clock.. the service history looks very good to be honest and in fairness the dealer has arranged a garage to sort it tomorrow... I will keep you updated

Sounds similar to when my turbo actuator failed, mine went about 120,000miles.

limp mode activated after hard or under load revs.

actuator was £125 and a bit of a pain to fit DIY.

It’s a great car, I bought mine with high miles over 4 years ago.

Again thank you.. I hope that it gets resolved tomorrow... the mechanic is a vw specialist so should know what he is doing..

On a separate topic..  the car had a Nokia hands free kit installed when I bought it so I went out today to take it out... noticed that it was hard wired so decided to leave it as it is.. but whilst I had the stereo out.. I turned the ignition on.. I had the airbag plug out from the facia now I have an airbag warning light as well... this is not starting too well for me.. does anyone know a way to get a radio code without going to the stealers???? Just in case he can't reset the airbag light and I have to disconnect the battery

Thank you all again for your advice and help... the car was with the mechanic today and he has said that it is the actuator after all so a new one is en route and will be installed tomorrow.. free of charge I am glad to add.. I was very disillusioned with the car and the badge after this but with all your help and the honestly of the dealer I bought it from... maybe I can now build my relationship with the car.. I do like everything about it.. just lost heart with the glitch...
