New experience...

Featured Replies

Just changed my wife's Citigo for a MKIII Fabia hatch 1.0 TSI DSG which we collected today from WestEnd Garage in Dunfermline. We live north of Inverness and it was a glorious day for a run (150 miles).

First impressions...

DSG transmission...A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y    F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S     first time driven such a gearbox, very impressive. Let's hope it stays that way.

Maxi Dot display ....very sharp image compared to my 2016 L&K Yeti. Having seen the quality of this display I suspect they just stopped trying with the Yeti. And shows speed in MPH - a bone of contention for some Yeti users.

No one touch windows...poor in this day & age.

Boot capacity....impressive.

Driver's seat.....very comfortable.

Average speed about 55 mph (you really need to drive the A9 to appreciate that is not bad with all the average speed cameras) and indicated average fuel consumption of 62.1 mpg. Dropped into 6th only about half a dozen times.

Very impressed for a first run. Think I'll 'borrow' it tomorrow and leave the Yeti at home - research you know.

Glad you are enjoying the new purchase, totally agree with you regarding one touch windows, think it’s the first car in 17 years of driving that does not have one touch, but I will live with it, my only complaint about mine is the lack of aircon.

Car was registered Sept. 2017 and has 2,000 miles on it. Was registered for a family member of an employee in the dealership (they can only keep it six months - I suspect some of you know this already - I didn't). It had been fairly well spec'd for an SE. Quartz Grey Metallic, Aircon, Amundsen sat.nav., spare wheel but the killer was the DSG for my wife.

Paid a fair price given that they are quite scarce and had over a grand equity in her Citigo (10,000 miles, 3 years old). Whole thing done over the 'phone (fourth car from them) twenty minutes in the dealership and away we went. Great when you establish trust with a dealer.

Additional info.

Well, A/C is standard on the SE ;)

The Amundsen though is a nice option if you're not too techie, I feel quite happy with the standard Bolero using Android Auto! Totally agree about having a spare wheel though, it's the lone option I have, and it's a great thing to have for peace of mind.

The standard SE seats are great IMO. Very comfortable, I've done non-stop 4/5 hour journeys without any trouble. I think they look pretty smart too!

The Fabia MaxiDOT is the newer type, as fitted to cars with the MQB platform's electronics. The Yeti was never updated to the newer electronics, it had the 'white DIS' system from the Mk.6 Golf etc the whole of its life. Weirdly, the Rapid did get updated, but not with the recent facelift- the changes were made around 2016 or so.

Totally agree about the one-touch windows, they're making a reappearance in the facelift Fabia so even Skoda realise they messed that one up!

Glad you like the new car. They are nice aren't they! Totally agree about the DSG box, it makes the car extra wonderful! Once you get used to it you'll love it even more. They are a fantastic box and very hardy. Previously I had the 1.6 Tiptronic auto 105ps engined estate. That had a torque converter and was a great box but nowhere near as responsive or good as the DSG. My current car is the 1.2TSI 110ps engined hatch model with DSG and my wife and I love it. Shortly, I'm going to be buying an additional Skoda to run alongside my hatch. I thought I'g get another estate version of the Fabia. We've already had two of them and although now retired early, I have an increasing need to have even more space again. Keep us all posted as to how you are getting on with the car...enjoy!

Thanks to you all for your good wishes. Took it to work today (Yeti must be feeling sad!) and realistically it is more suited than the TDI Yeti given that it is only a 14 mile drive. Must say that the issues surrounding diesels (DPF, DMF etc) has taken the shine off what is a wonderful car. I almost treat it with kid gloves but even though it is Euro 6 with Adblue I am so disappointed with the random fragility of the Yeti now.

Some things from the Yeti have not crossed over though. The Amundsen does not show radio volume levels being changed whilst on DAB (the Yeti Amundsen does). (Incidentally, the Bolero on my previous Yeti showed the heater settings on the screen - not so the Amundsen).

Having released the tailgate with the middle key fob button it does not re-lock automatically when closed (even though the indicators flash). This may be something that can be set-up or perhaps there is a fault - I don't know.

Although I like the colour very much (Quartz grey metallic) I would be hard pushed to say that it was indeed metallic.

Anyway, upwards and onwards.

The hatch on our 65 plate Fabia estate locks on closing after being released with the middle fob button (as does my year old Rapid).

I'd get it looked at if I was you.

As above mine locks after using the hatch button.

Enjoy the car you've made an excellent choice.

Thanks,

I thought it should.  I read the manual and it states that the period between closing and locking can be adjusted by the dealer. Don't think that has happened. Will check it again.

Took it to work again this morning and had to pass an articulated low loader on a single carriageway. WOW that 110ps 1.0 turbo and DSG box is some combination. VERY impressed.

Typo.

Glad to said that about the 1.0 dsg.  Mine's a 1.2 and I've been concerned that I wouldn't like the 3 cylinder engine when I come to change it soon..

Took the Yeti (L&K 2.0TDI, manual) out today after a week with the 1.0 DSG Fabia.

Oh I don't like this manual gearbox thing - very strange now! The DSG has really spoiled me.

About 30 years ago I was After-sales Manager in a Rolls-Royce/Range-Rover garage and almost all were exclusively automatics. I almost always stalled my car at the first set of traffic lights when going home at night. This brought that period flooding back - and I must say with all the DMF issues had I known that then I may have chosen differently.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing - sometimes it is just hard earned. Isn't this site a wonderful resource.
