Need help with 1.2 08 Fabia

Featured Replies

Hello,My fabia has had 2 new no 3 coils fitted in last 10 days and a new set of spark plugs.

Car went into limp mode and Rac fitted 1st new coil (no code) and then went again after 40 miles.

Towed home, into garage new coil and plugs after diagnostic picked up no 3 at fault (no code).

Back in garage as went into limp mode with engine light on---now the garage are saying they've

no idea what's wrong and don't know what to do.They are a reliable local garage I always use.

Would I be better off going to Skoda although their prices are exoribant

Thank you

You would almost certainly be better off getting a proper diagnosis. A VW specialist in your area might be a good idea. They will most likely be as good as main dealer at two thirds the price. I have seen some Fabia's, mainly Vrs' that are very prone to spark plug issues. If the plug is not well gapped and I do mean WELL gapped, don't rely on how it is but check and adjust very accurately, or if the plugs are more then about 20,000 miles in, change them anyway. Also, the type/brand of plugs are a contention. I would really check they are correct. Coils, again, can last ages but can fail any time. Quality is most likely the road to go there, rather then price. Saving money costs more!

Have you accidentally put any diesel in? It might clog things up a little. Really, its a game of hide and seek so getting a better diagnostic check, with someone who knows the car, is the best answer.

Suggest that your garage do a compression test on the engine.  Shouldn't be too expensive, and may give useful information.

Last time someone posted a similar scenario it turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. Not that expensive if you shop around. However do get a proper diagnostic done before doing anything and don't allow yourself to be conned into "needs a new cylinder head mate" that the poster I referred to did. Try a search of the forum to find the thread. Misfire, 1.2, htp, limp mode, being useful keywords.

Get it scanned with a simple obd tool and tell us the code, that age HTP have problems with the cam sensor which is a five minute fix, it gave ours similar issues which we thought was a coil or plug
