Possible Timing chain failure - options

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 VRS TSi with a suspected timing chain failure (at least according to the recovery driver).

From cold start, there was a rattling noise and nothing else...

Symptoms:

Seems to crank faster then normal

Appears to be zero compression

Oil on spark plugs

The only error code is P2294 - Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 open

Assuming this is a chain failure (and therefore not good news...) what would be the best options?

Recon engine fitted by generic supplier

Engine rebuild by specialist independent VAG

Give up and get another car...

For background, the car has covered 70,000 miles and it otherwise on good condition.  No documented service history, so probably no point in discussing with Skoda...

Any advice welcome!

i would defo say it's chain failure, the fact there is no compression points to that.the best option is to have the cylinder head rebuilt by a VAG specialist(hopefully it's just the head thats damaged) and have the latest revision of chain and tensioner fitted.

I have been through the second half of this, i.e. buying a car (2010 TSI) with an already slipped chain and bent valves. In my case, the engine only sustained eight bent inlets and I had a local VAG independent take care of the entire job. I'm very happy with the outcome.
