Show Us Your Front Strut Brace

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks B)

I’ve been looking at a few strut braces for the mk3 & I know a few members have front strut braces fitted which look fab.

There is a few I’ve been keeping my eye on (links below)

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F252900072143

I believe @Ant-Vrs & @creamvRS possiblely might have this particular one? (I’m not sure)

But I’ve also been tempted by this one

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173263992834

Which is from a UK seller & comes powder coated to a colour of you’re choice so saves on long shipping times & import charges.

Anyone that has either strut brace fitted would you mind commenting on how you find the strut overall & is it a simple fit below the scuttle panel (any drilling required or does it just use the 3 existing bolt heads on either side of the strut area under scuttle panel)

Cheers guys

Ant fit mine at the weekend - Caps of wipes, bolts off wipes, boiling water poured on then pull wipers off. Scuttle out.

then 3 top mount bolts off but might be best on a flat surface as we did it on sloping drive and the top mount moved out of line.

fit it, it's snug - Thne bolt up, and reverse - scuttle back, wipers on etc.

We have the russian one - Cost about £35 item, £35 postage, £25 customers

Then got powder coated here for £10-20

Cheers creamvrs  The build quality of the Russian strut does actually look better now comparing the 2 especially the ends of the strut on the Russian version looks more triangle'd, tougher, & I see there is a bit of the strut that is thinner? do you know if the Russian strut comes as red or blue, I will probably get it powder coated (Black, pearl white, yellow, lime green loads of other colours) :giggle: :D can't decide B) but would cope with either colour of whats delivered.

now you see, this is probably the wrong item altogether and of no relation to what you're after...........but is this of any use?

can't make up one's mind as to where on the car this goes

Goes across the exhaust tunnel under the car to brace the chassis, according to pictures...

aaaah so it does, just found a picture of it installed on an Audi A3.

seems a bit excessive to reinforce that, is it not?

There are pics on the link you posted.

Bonkers money for very little gain, yes. I'd imagine only really worthwhile on track cars.

Coilovers, lighter wheels, front strut brace and uprated front and rear anti roll bars are the things I'd be doing if I was wanting to improve handling.

Mine and Ant's came like a flat blue. Nice finish. I went for Porsche Acid Green and powder coaters came back with like Skoda Metallic Green - I then couldn't be arsed to do my calipers too so re-did strut in post box red.

  • 1 year later...

I bought mine from this seller https://picclick.co.uk/Skoda-Octavia-Strut-Brace-173263992834.html

pain to fit. i messed it up and needed a friend with spring compressors and a bit of luck to fix things! (holes fell out of alignment when car jacked up and wheel/suspension strut moved relative to the holes)

it cuts down on chatter through the steering wheel mid corner if there are bumps but its a pretty subtle improvement to be honest. Much more noticeable improvement handling wise when you upgrade the front and rear antiroll bars :)

No I didn't bother in the end, the listing for the Skoda strut finished & not sure why the seller has not relisted? best to contact him via ebay message.

But last one from Russia

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252900072143?ul_noapp=true

This is the one Ant & Cream have.
