massive highside!!

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Im a new skoda owner and happen to be a biker as well.

Been on bikes for over 20yrs and actually got my octavia as a cheap towing vehicle to get my bike to track days.

Im out of action at the moment due to a massive highside at Brands hatch last month and have a big list of injuries.

Its fair to say the bike is now going to be for track use only

Enjoy the photos!!

Pretty much yes, I was too fast for the group I was in so ended up going wide all the time to get past, was also on road tyres and looking at them after 18mins they got to hot and gave up.

Spun up then gripped and spat me into 5mins of unconsciousness at 80mph and a world of trouble

Christ. Did a good job of it then?

Looks like a good job the bike didnt hit you on its way past.

Good luck with the recovery

One of my sons had a similar accident at Snetterton in 2014 on his Ymaha R1.   He was only doing between 40 and 50 but it looked bad to track officials who expected him to be hospitalised for some time.  My wife took 2 hours to drive to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and was expecting to find him in bits in A&E but instead he was waiting in the hospital foyer for a lift home.  He 'only' suffered severe back bruising and was off work for 4 weeks.  He has since bought a kevlar back brace for motorcycling.

We both wish you a speedy recovery.

Important question FWD - Is the bike OK, though??!!

Also, silly question if I may - Who is it that was taking these admittedly-stunning high-definition photos, while you were tumbling your life away, instead of... I dunno...  dropping everything and running over to see if you're still breathing, perhaps?

Haha good question. I was fortunate enough (sort off) that the professional track photographer caught my every bump and scrape.

And yes the bike is ok now, its now a dedicated track bike only so has full race fairings and all lights removed.

Had to replace a cracked engine cover and a footrest but apart from a huge dent in the tank it all looks quite acceptable

Due to it being on track the Tog wouldn't have been able to get near anyway and likely would have been more of a hindrance to the marshals and medical staff.

I'm sure FWD will confirm though :)

edit - He's quicker than I am :D

You're right, it's a silly question, if only because most people (me included) can't react that fast during a crash situation. Once FWD came to rest, that's when the "go and help" instinct would take over from the "holding the release down" one.

Im quite glad he took the snaps really because brands hatch wouldn't let me see their own footage and my on bike cam didnt tell me much about what caused it.

I lost around 10mins of memory so have no recollection of even entering the corner to start with

Well FWD, at least we know how you roll since you have pictures of it. So what part of “keep it shiny side up” did you not understand.

Main you'll mend, the bike already is and you can have fun again.
