Service plan. Is it worth it?

Featured Replies

The dealership has offered us a service plan with our new Citigo.

Fixed price servicing based on 8000 miles a year, £521 or £16.28 per month until January 2021.

They say there's a good saving;is this worth it?

3 services so every 372 days or sooner. A Minor Service, then a Major Service, then a Minor.

So 3 oil and filter changes, 1 pollen filter supplied, and not much else doing?

Inspection, top up washer fluid, report, free wash and vacuum which you are paying for.

£521 divided by 3 average @ £176.66 per service.    A total rip off IMO.  and the car will have only done 24,000 miles.

Likely no spark plugs will be replaced or Air Filter.   Likely no Brake Fluid Change done at 3 years in the price.

?

Are they doing a MOT at 3 years?

No mention of an MOT.

So what's a cheaper alternative bearing in mind we want a Skoda service history?.

Honda offer 5 services ( one per year ) for £599

Thanks.

Just found out that an MOT is included in the price.

I am with offski on this one. A total rip off.

However, if you are adamant that you want a Skoda FSH, then there is no alternative.

My last new Skoda was serviced by a trustworthy independent. My current cars go to a trustworthy independent.

All the best.

A Full Main Dealer Service History is not worth very much if you are buying a keeper, and actually if you are handing back a car not worth much,

and even if Trading in at a Skoda Main Dealership.

After all they are doing so little, just put £15 a month aside and get the car serviced at a Skoda Main Dealership if you want at 8,000 miles or an Independent Garage,

they are not doing more than £120-£150 worth @ 8,000 miles, 16,000 miles or @ 24,000 miles.

The Warranty is only 3 years anyway and you do not need to use Main Dealerships for Servicing.

Get the 3 rd Service done @ a Skoda Main Dealership maybe after getting the MOT 4 weeks early and have any Warranty Work required done.

I'll look into it all and thanks for the good advice.

Do they return your money if you paid too much in three years? Here they do. (up! dealer) It's like saving money. And if service costs are higher than I paid, then they pay the rest. Sounds too good to be true but let's see.

I think they said overpayment would be refunded or transferred if we change the car before the specified time.

NO refund or transfer was "available" for me...lost out with 12mths remaining !!

The sales person could well have been making it up to get us to buy or just ignorant.

Just to make it clear...it was NOT up to the dealer...on contacting Skoda directly, it ultimately became a NEGATIVE response from them ,,,NO !!

Have you considered the standard Skoda offering of £279 for two years? That would seem to leave you with quite a lot for the 3rd year to make a saving from.

Even that is too expensive for what will get done at 8,000 miles and 16,000 miles.

They do not seem to be trying too hard to win your money there, my wife's Polo had a 3 year servicing deal bought with it, but it is a dealership chain service plan and not a VW one, it did not cost anything like that back in August 2015, though, for each service it does contain small print to give a maximum allowance for each service in the plan - maybe they were frightened that inflation would take off?  I think that when we were offered that plan, the difference between a 2 year and a 3 year plan was only roughly £75 and the 3 year plan includes an MOT but no brake fluid change - though I can sort that out easily enough.

The car is on a PCP so how much value would be lost when it comes to swapping for another car if at all?

If more trade in value is lost than it costs to pay stupid prices for servicing then main dealer service ends up being better value in our case.

If it's definitely going to be a keeper then independent garage servicing would be more economical.

Has anyone here traded in a PCP car without a dealership service history and still got a good price? Does the car lose value without a main dealer service history?

No idea I am afraid. PCP has never been, and will never be, on my radar.

A 2018 Skoda Euro 6 of any model will likely only be worth a bag of magic beans at a Main Dealership in 2021.

Why guarantee them money every month or even your business, pay as you go and see how things are when the time comes IMO.

In here it's like third year warranty. Or even longer if you wish to continue it. If anything "wear out" they replace it.
