Alarm Beeps and Needle Sweeps anyone?

Featured Replies

I collected my new Karoq Edition today and, before collection, I had asked the dealer to activate the speedometer/tachometer needle sweeps on startup, and the audible beeps on locking/unlocking. He told me that the needle sweeps had not yet been included in the VW software specification and could not at the moment be activated, and that the audible beeps on locking/unlocking were not allowed in the UK due to our noise abatement rules.

Was I told porky pies? Have any Karoq owners managed to enable the above two features using the software? Thanks.

A liitle porkie on the beeps maybe - but only insofar as it is EU directives adopted by the UK rather than UK only. Same rules are in force here in Ireland.

This area can be a little tricky - some people say they or their dealer can change it on various cars they have owned - others say they cant.  What I was told is the the EU Directive that covers this area states that cars with an immobilizer shall only give a optical indication (i.e. a flash) that they have been turned on.

The reason that some cars allow the audible beeps to be turned on is because they are probably equipped with a car alarm only  - not car alarm + immobilizer. Its the immobilizer being present that makes chirps and beeps "illegal" under the noise directive.  I think they made the assumption that it was easier to bring in the rules for immobilizers rather than rewrite the alarm legislation as well, as they knew all cars would have to go the route of having immobilizers as standard.

As all UK Karoqs probably have immobilizers as standard, then neither you (through the cars menus) nor the dealer can (legally) turn the audible beeps/chirps on. That doesn't mean one of the cunning chaps here with VCDS wont be willing or able to do it for you soon enough. I'd guess a noise sensitive neighbor who know the rules could cause you a bit of grief though.

It always amuses me the little things that float people's boats, needle sweeps being one of them

Please don't have the audible beep. It's not considerate, particularly if you have close neighbours.

I have them in my 4 year old Superb. Willing to swop it for someones new Edition, if its Velvet Red with cream leather and every option ticked.

Its a great opportunity for someone here - the needle sweeps really are the dogs ******! I often go out after midnight and sit in the car naked, waiting for them to happen.

i think beebs are very handy to confirm that the car is locked and was an option on the maxi dot

My Golf has them, don't see what all the fuss is about, totally pointless..

Thats a bit creepy isn't it???

I have a Velvet Red Edition with cream leather but it would take more than a b----y needle sweep to make me swop! Can't see the point and I also don't understand all the fuss about the digital dash. :speechless:

In my Edition I presume the same for all Karoqs the way we check the car is locked is because the door mirrors fold in automatically, it is very helpful when you've walked away from the car and you have that moment of doubt and you can just look and see the mirrors folded in.

Personally I am pleased there are no beeps, although we live in the countryside with minimal neighbours my husband is a doctor so gets called in to work quite often at 3am and his car beeping would not be very popular as the sound would travel along way, if we come home late at night we always make sure if we open the electric boot we do so by touching the back rather than the driver's button otherwise that beeps.  We just try to be considerate, I grew up in the era when people had Moss alarms fitted and they beeped and sounded at their own free will :o

LOL - each to their own. It's about choice.

I've got them in one of my cars and had them on a previous motorbike. Quite nice to have but pretty pointless and if they weren't as standard I wouldn't bother to have them activated if it was possible.
