Afternoon everyone!  How are we all?!?

 

Some may remember that I was flip-flopping about a Superb III L&K TDI190 last year but that it had higher than normal mileage.  Well, I picked up a Superb L&K this morning which has MUCH lower mileage and I'm over the moon.  

 

She's a 16-plate L&K 2.0TDI 190 4x4 DSG.  I'm coming from an Insignia Saloon (yes, one of those rare beasts!) and I know the Superb isn't that much longer or wider (from my workings she's less than 1cm wider mirrors in, narrower mirrors out, and a mere 4cm longer).  I've measured the garage numerous times, so why do I find that I'm nervous to put it in there?  I know, I know, give myself time to get used to it - but I want to get this stage over and done with to grow my confidence - which is somewhat lacking!  

 

But yeah, she's a beaut!  The drive is sublime compared to the clunky manual Insignia I came from - that was a 60-plate Elite Nav.  It'll take me a while to stop looking for the clutch pedal (getting used to it already, but I find when I'm coming to a roundabout or traffic lights, I'm hunting).  

 

Hopefully a decent drive coming up tomorrow, but for today it's a case of picking the Mrs up from work, then heading off for the weekly shop.  I'll need to download the latest nav update (she's on 2016 at the mo), but I don't have an SD card big enough...so that'll have to wait.

A tip from a fool: when you're pulling to the curb past a parked car, remember that the rear wheels will track a few inches inside the front wheels. The Superb has got a LONG wheel base. I moved from a much shorter car and came to grief a couple of times before I learned...

Thanks - will bear that in mind!  I hardly ever park street-side (garage overnight, or public carpark all other times).  

 

Well, she's garaged - and I needn't have worried.  For some unfathomable reason, she fits just fine and is much easier to get in - although longer wheelbase does mean she complains a little when the fronts go up onto the concrete pad [bit of background - our garage has no lead up, just a pavement and then a narrow road].  It was good to see that the mirrors don't distort what you see nearly as much as the Insignia's did - in that I was always thinking that I was wonky, but the Superb was die straight first time (well, second if you count the straightening before she went in).  

 

Many more happy miles to come, I'm sure.  

If it makes you feel better, I've had my Superb about 3 weeks and I'm still nervous as I'm driving it. It's only 3" wider than my old yeti but it feels much wider.

 

I suspect the bus driver that clouted the mirror and rear mudflap (but thankfully not the bodywork) thought it was narrower than it looks :-(
