Superb Mk3 tire size: 215/60R17 instead of 215/55R17 ?

Featured Replies

My MK3 1.6tdi Superb has 215/55R17 P7 Cinturatos with W speed rating. They are very hard and i feel every small bump on the road (Even with 2.1bar front and 2.2 rear)

I never make speed so I think of replacing them with H rating but H tires mostly exist in 215/60R17 size.  Would this size fit the car? Any ideas?

Hi they would fit but going up a profile is going to throw out your rolling radius and make the speedo inaccurate unfortunately.

in most cases opposite,
value on car speedometer will become more accurate
with stock 215/55r17 it were +5km on 100kmh (+10km on 200kmh)
with 225/55r17 speedo shows just +2km when compared to GPS

Changing the tyres size and speed rating from the manufacturer specified one would require approval form the insurance company. It would be classed as a modification and failure to notify (and get approval) would almost certainly result in no insurance should the worst happen. Checking the tyres (not only for tread) is one of the first things the assessor does. they are not only costing the repairs they are looking for a "get out of jail free card".

But why you find the 215 55 17' P7's hard is beyond me. Same tyre on ours and they are fine, did 430 miles on Saturday with no complaints. If you want hard try a 40 profile tyre.

Yes but all you have done increase the width the original post asked about changing the profile height from 55 to 60 hence increasing the rolling radius.

wrong!
i have increased width for 10mm and height for 10mm(height of car +5mm)
second number "55" means percentage from width not exact height

Wrong the original post has not changed the width just the height? I wasn't referring to you all I did was answer the original post and you changed it to yourself?? If he changed the profile height without the width it will affect the rolling radius end of :kiss:

@Smirnoff1977

will write slowly :)
changing the width does change also height

You clearly like to say what you have done so not worth wasting my time. I know what the tyres symbols mean and that changing the width will also change the height slightly but this is not what the person wanted to do!! :D
