Octavia mk3 1,4tsi engine track record

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm considering buying 09/2013 OCtavia mk3 estate 103kw

Erwin gives the engine code as CHPA which means EA211.

This car has 145000km on the clock. Am I correct that EA211 1,4 tsi has been fairly trouble free and this mileage should be nothing too much to be scared of?

Also, there is A LOT of confusion about timing belt change interval - what is the latest consensus about this :) - should it be due to change or is the 210000 km still correct?

To be honest the car you are looking at would be one of the highest distance covered for a 1.4tsi mentioned in this forum as most road warriors opt for diesel. Probably why no other responses yet.

Reassuring for the rest of us on much lower figures, but it is venturing into unknown territory.

The only thing that has been mentioned with this engine across the group are sticking wastegate issues but even that is relatively rare.

Timing/cam belt change requirements seem to vary across regions, but my thinking was that past 7 years  or 140k km is starting to push up the odds of failure.

You have done your homework though and identified the correct engine and not confused it with the previous supercharged and turbo charged 1.4tsi which offered a lot more performance but suffered a lot of issues.

I guess the type of distance covered will also be a factor, whether it was used as an urban taxi or a motorway courier.

Is it a manual or auto? Personally I am not sure I would have full confidence in the 'dry' DSG box when it has racked up that sort of mileage (depending on previously mentioned driving environment.

If the price is right, it drives ok, and you have a got a mechanic friend to give it the once over, then it may well take you well beyond 200k km with few issues.

Sorry not much help I'm afraid, but no news is sometimes good news. :)

Should be ok if well looked after. I have 80000 kms on mine no problems and is looking good for a long time yet.

Please , once and for all, Skoda, yes Skoda, state the timing belt on this CHPA engine should be inspected at 240000 kms thereafter every 30000 kms for signs of wear. Official.

Good luck if you decide to buy, well made and very economical.

Regards

Roger
