MY19 changes

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any clue as to what the MY19 changes are for the Octavia estate, particularly the diesel versions?

So far all I know is the higher output engine is gone in manual form at least.

Really should update the 184 engine. The new A6 is having a 205ps 2 litre diesel. The biturbo 2 litre in the Passat kicks out 238ps.

Plenty of options to improve the VRS

I didn't think there was a confirmed diesel VRS yet.

Not a bad thing

The bulk of the VRS sales are diesels as I understand it, so they wouldn't drop it, surely

They may not get the choice as there is a limited amount of SCR diesel capacity and the current engine wont meet WLTP if the rumours are correct.

In VAG terms Skoda Octavia VRS Diesel sales are tiny.

Nothing confirmed yet though.

I am looking to get a VRS diesel, so will be disappointed if they do not replace it or at the very least keep the current.

Does anyone know when MY19 details may be released? based on previous years, when have details been released?

In VAG terms they sell A LOT of cars with that same engine- 11 different models excluding the VRS

consider

VW Golf GTD

Seat Leon FR

Seat Ateca

Octavia VRS

Octavia Scout

Audi A4

Audi A6

Skoda Superb

VW Passat

Skoda Kodiaq

VW Scirocco

Seat Alhambra

They all use the CR184 or the CR190 which is the same engine with a fractionally higher output.

The 184 is reported not to meet WLTP. The 190SCR can.

VAG have said they have a limit on current SCR engine production. They have said they will not expand SCR production outside the current capacity due to the massive fall in diesel sales world wide  and as they concentrate more on Hybrids and EV.

This will mean some models loose their diesel options.

But we have already seen this creeping in with the Fabia etc.

Which models get the 190SCR are yet to be confirmed.

Well hopefully they will roll out at least  the 190 to the VRS. Although the new A6 is getting a new 2 litre diesel with 205ps. Maybe they will replace the 184 engines and the 190s with that.

What does "meet WLTP" mean? I thought it was just a new more realistic testing regime. Surely an engine can only be given a less favourable rating rather than "fail" WLTP?

I guess it's possible if the current VRS diesel engine was already on the way out they might not want to put it through the tests.

It can't meet the NOx limits on the WLTP tests. (If the speculation is correct)

Once each vehicle and spec is tested it needs to be able to replicate that under testing of the same type, not out on a road obviously, say once in the UK.

Then obviously not tested by any authorities after a owners changes, tyres, wheels, roof rack, tows a trailer or caravan, or puts a person in each seat and fills the boot. Runs cars as many run them, out on roads in weather.

Also not after a remap or a tuning box is fitted either, or any change to the engine management.

Maybe by 2022 they will be doing MOTs in the UK and going by the Factory spec, weights, emissions, noise etc.

Are you sure that's still true?

Certainly there appears to have been a seismic shift since 2010 when I bought my petrol MK2.
