Air Inlet missing/air filter removal

Featured Replies

Hi all I recently bought a mk3 Fabia & noticed that something seems to be missing on the air inlet or is it supposed to be like, it doesn't seem to affect the performance.

The engine in question is the three cylinder 1.4tdi, it also seems a little rough on tickover or is that just how three cylinder engines are because I've never owned a car with a three cylinder engine before, or is it like that because of the missing part & if so is it a part that's easy to get hold of?

And can someone please tell me how to open the air filter box up as I can't see any obvious way of getting in to it?

Thanks

I've not had the bonnet open on the new 1.4TDI  But that doesn't look good. I'd guess it's missing the front grill diffuser which allows the engine to breath from behind the front grill. It also helps keep the water out. Your air filter will be wet and this will account for the rough running. You may also find it smokes quite a bit as the engine will be struggling to breath and will try to pull more fuel through the injectors. Ultimately, it's possible you may have some damage to the injectors or pump. This is not uncommon if the filter becomes wet. Screws hold the air filter together, you can see them from underneath.

Thanks. it seems that car has suffered a pretty big front end shunt sometime in its life & whole front seems twisted as the bonnet doesnt line up properly with the wings or grill, I'm currently in the process of trying to get my money back & get my hands on another fabia as they're nice little cars.

Note the gap, just in front of the windscreen washer bottle, compared to yours.

Thanks all for the replies, it turned out the car had been in an accident at sometime & wasn't repaired properly & has now gone back to the dealer for a full refund.

Well done Rich, hope this doesn't put you off Skoda. The Fabia in particular is a very very good car. I've had 4 of them over the last 11 years and they will take some punishment and still provide sterling service and comfort. Very reliable. Good luck!

Been following this thread. Well done in acting quickly Rich. Hope your all sorted now. As Estate man said, if you get a good 'un the fabia are a sturdy little motor, I too have had 4 and regretted it when I tried a couple of other makes.

One dodgy car dealer hasn't put me off skodas, I'm currently split between a fabia 1.2tsi / 1.4tdi or a 1.6 rapid & I most definitely won't be going back to renault!

Well done Rich, hope the dealer learned a lesson.
