Ariel removal / blanking.

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I have always found the analogue reception on my VRS to be pretty poor. Not using the standard radio much, I've opted to go for a DAB, which works great and give more channels then I need.

Now with that, ihave no need for the standard analogue Ariel itself (looks huge also). What would be the best way to remove, or blank this? I don't have the inclination to pay for it to be professionally removed, filled and sprayed etc. Something I could reverse if needed.

Any help?

Cheers.

@JamieP86 - The aerial mast will unscrew from the base.

Cheers for the reply Ken - I'm more looking for a base blank, as having the large black part in situ would look as if someone has just stolen my  aerial!

If you can get the back of the headlining down you'll see the base is bolted to the roof from inside.

Remove the plug and remove the nut and it'll lift off.

Rubber grommet will do the job aesthetically but you may get water ingress

I changed one on a B5 passat years ago because the bases usually perish and crack

@JamieP86 - Further to @fwdnewbie last, I've managed to get a decent seal by putting some TIgerseal around the edges of a suitably sized blanking plug.
