PD150 Question

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I’m new on here signed up after reading for hours and not really finding a clear answer to my question, so thought it would be easier to just sign up and ask someone who will know!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place and I’m sure it’s been asked before so here goes:

Basically my standard kkk turbo has gone pop, I’m looking at upgrading to a remanufactured PD150 as the replacement, I don’t want to be spending too much on a hybrid or a brand new one as the car is only my run around, but may as well opt for the better Garrett unit rather than another standard KKK.  I’m not looking for major power gains or anything like that,  I’m lead to believe the car has already been mapped to around 160bhp but for all I know that could be complete bull, I may look at getting it mapped again in the future if I opt for the PD150 to get the full potential from it.

My main question is will I have to do the EGR delete to fit the PD150 with the ASZ engine? ( I’m aware of the benefits of an EGR delete but don’t really want to go down that road unless absolutely necessary) so wanted to check that it would be a direct replacement apart from clocking the turbo.  From what I have read the later BLT engines require the EGR delete because the pipe fitting is in a different position but the earlier ASZ engines fit directly, is that correct? I’ve read some people say it does and some who say it doesn’t but that could be confusion between engine codes?

The last thing I would like to clarify is that I am looking at the correct turbo PD150 gt1749vb off a mk4 golf or a Mk1 Leon?

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks.

The 150 engine ARL was in 2002 Mk4's badged as GTI (red I) and mainly Leons.

I've had both, the golf was a remap only to 196bhp and the Leon was decat, pipercross panel and map to 215bhp

The ARL engines also have bigger intercoolers than the other models. Although if going to the trouble of changing a turbo I'd probably fit a front mount anyway.

With regards to the EGR delete, why would you not get rid of it?

Hi mate thanks for the reply, I’ve not bothered with the pd150 just went for a standard turbo couldn’t be bothered getting involved with the egr delete etc. Didn’t want the EGR delete because I’d have to remove the ASV also. I just thought it would end up being more hassle than it’s worth. Having said that after fitting the new turbo had the boost leak issues from the old pipework and intercooler so decided to replace it for hard pipework and a fmic anyway because I ended up getting royally p****d off with it. Managed to cure the boost leaks but it’s still not running quite right I think the actuator needs setting up correctly as it’s only been set up by the company that sold me the remanufactured one. So in the end maybe I should have just got the pd150 done the egr delete and sent it for a remap but I would have ended up spending more than I wanted to really as the car is just my daily runner.
