I recently purchased a pretty high mileage Octavia 200k kms 2.0 tdi dsg. I just noticed a rattling sound when the engine is cold. A quick google suggested that it probably is the dmf. I managed to replicate the problem a recorded a video.

Sounds likely.

 

It's difficult to test with a DSG, on a manual you can try accelerating in a high gear from a low speed to see if you can get it to judder.

 

To be fair, I had a brand new clutch and DMF fitted to my Superb and it still sounds a little noisey on tick over.
