Moving up (size wise anyway!) ... Sportline Ordered

Featured Replies

So after a few months of not being sure it will work our finally ordered my new car yesterday...

Sportline 2.0 TSI DSG in Steel Grey.  We don't get many choices here (Sportline or not) & am just getting our standard spec.  Luckily for me there was a Steel Grey (the only one in the country available until next year) that I managed to secure.

Now to wait for pick up day when my RS goes back to the leasing co... 38 sleeps!

Kodiaq-Sportline-Specification-Sheet.pdf

Looking at the specs the SportLine is already loaded with equipment as standard, certainly far more boxes are ticked compared to the UK version.

UK list price for the 2.0 TSI SportLine is £35,670 GBP, compared to NZ at $62,990 NZD, which converts to £33,204 GBP.

Assuming similar financial incentives and discounts are available via Skoda NZ then the Kodiaq is extremely good value in New Zealand!

Was quite impressed with a Meteor Grey Sportline I sat in whilst my Octavia was being serviced. As above, looks like the standard spec is fantastic on the Sportline there. Will be a cracking car that!

Not too many deals to be had that I have seen... the current one seems to be 5 years warranty, 5 years servicing, 5 years roadside assist & no deposit, 2.9% finance over 36 months... but, of course not on the Kodiaq.  Have locked in  3 years servicing for NZ$400, but that's not too huge a saving I don't think.

The company I work for does the customs work for the importer for the VAG group here so we are able to get a bit of a discount.

Skoda is still a bit of a niche brand here in NZ so they tend to load their cars spec wise rather than offer huge discounts... having said that I did see an ad for a limited number of Superb Sportline at something like NZ$8,000 off retail.  Must be getting to the end of their financial year.

Have you taken a sportline for a test drive? I found the 20's gave it a rougher ride and ended up going for the scout. Someone in my office got the Sportline and they're both (IMO) the best looking cars in the Kodiaq range.

No... unfortunately the dealers demo Sportline was taken out by an errant Mustang so have only driven the next model down for us... a Style... which is same same with slightly smaller wheels.

No Scout here for us at this stage.  Really went for the Sportline for the interior (coming from the RS) & the colour.

Surprised you aren't waiting for the RS. Will be upgrading ours to the RS if the numbers work out...

Company car ... so need to return the (Octavia) RS this month... & then have to work within my new budget...

Considering VW charge NZ$10,000 more for the Passat with the Bi-TDI over the 140KW TDI one I'd expect Skoda to do something similar... just checked & the Tiguan Allspace with the Bi-TDI is $76,990... hmm....

Ah that's fair enough. From what/whom I've heard, looking at early 70's.

Yeah that would make sense with how the Tiguan is priced... to still try & command a premium for the superior VW product... :D

The fact that VWNZ believes they can sell a Tiguan Allspace for 78k without a powered passengers seat is laughable at most. Interestingly you can't even spec the upgraded sound system on the top model! I had a look at it over fieldays, rubbish car.

Seems to be the VW way though.  Charge for the name with the hope no one looks at the spec sheet too closely.  When I got my Octavia RS it was some $8k cheaper than a Golf GTI with about $6k worth of extra spec on top.

Yup, only got my Golf R Wagon cause Skoda doesn't offer a similar package (200+kw 4wd wagon)

You'll love it mate, very good looking motor.

all PDI'd & ready for plates... just have to wait now ...

One thing I was surprised about... Not Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres... Conti Sportcontact 5's instead.  I know when I got the RS there were a couple of tyres you could end up with... didn't realise the Kodiaq suffered the same fate.

Looking good! Was it raining or did the dealer not bother drying it? :D

The Scout is the same with tyres, you either get Pirelli or Hankook, was glad to get the latter.

Seems as though there are few more Kodiaq's there waiting for new homes?

Hoping they just hadn't dried it... Since it is inside. Hopefully they keep it inside for the next couple of weeks.

Yeah couple of Kodiaq & couple of Karoq... apparently they've had a Karoq ordered in Steel Grey... Not sure it'll look as good with the chrome trim...

& a few police cars in for service.

T minus 3 hours... Or should that be K minus 3 hours?

I like when the dealer seems just as excited... last email from them was signed off "2 more sleeps!"

Work this morning is going to be torture!

Figured I'd get a couple of pics since it'll never be this clean again...

One of 2 this colour in the country... Next one isn't due until March 2019.

First impressions are very positive... Smooth & quiet.

How come it took so long from PDI to delivery, three weeks ish?

Where in NZ are you? I was in Auckland for a week earlier in the year with work, didn't see many Skoda's on the road, let alone Kodiaq's!

Nice view from the M Social hotel near Captain Cook Wharf...

Kodiaq was ready, registered & waiting, I just had to wait out the lease on my current car... which technically finishes today but I couldn't wait any longer.

Doesn't the internet make the world a small place.  I'm in Auckland, in fact used to work in the building in the left of your shot there & not 2 weeks ago stayed at the M Social.  Looks like you had reasonable weather.  What do you do that brings you so far afield?  I work in international freight & the furthest I've gotten with work is Melbourne.  :wondering:

Skoda is still a bit of a niche brand here in NZ (which makes it even more surprising to me they launched SEAT here last year) but is slowly gathering pace... talking to the dealer yesterday he mentioned June was the best month ever for Skoda in NZ, with them being the biggest dealer by far.  In the last 2 weeks they've delivered red, silver, black, white & now grey Sportline.  They seem to be able to sell the majority of Sportline in the country, having to transfer stock from other dealers.  Conversely they have a black vRS hatch in stock that's had no interest whatsoever so they're taking the drastic step of having it wrapped in matte gunmetal & putting aftermarket wheels on it to try & move it along.  Must say it looks pretty good but the matte wrap already has some shiny patches where people have touched it... & it's not even finished.

Sounds a bit like me, trying to play it cool with the dealer telling them to keep hold of it, I'll be along to pick it up when I get a chance, pretending not to be excited. The reality being that I had to get rid of the old lease Octavia first and had the best part of a month of sleepless nights :D

It's amazing how much of a difference the number plate format makes to the look of a car. The NZ plates are much less 'obvious' than the bright yellow, reflective plates we have here in the UK, so more focus is given to the car.

I work for a global power tool company keen to do better in ANZ. Quite why they gave the task to someone living in the UK still baffles me but hey-ho I get to see the world.

SEAT is positioned below Skoda here (only just), and had they had a Kodiaq equivalent chances are I'd have bought one given their more aggressive discounts and offers.

Not being able to sell a black vRS is worrying!

Yeah I would't complain... until you have to travel more than you're home... then could get tiresome.  Well, if you're wanting someone to look after your freight & distribution needs down here get in touch!

They've done the same with SEAT vs. Skoda here... although they only have a limited range of each model... i.e with the Leon it's 1.4 FR for $36k or the Cupra 300 for $56k... 5 door DSG hatches only.

The vRS hatch doesn't sell anywhere near as well as the wagon here.  There's not much difference in purchase price (couple of grand from memory) but when I was looking in 2014 the hatch was nearly $200 more expensive to lease per month which worked out to $9000 over the course of the lease.
