Knocking sound from suspension... again

Featured Replies

Hi let me talk through the droplinks where diagnosed as bad, so had em changed last week now the same kind of knocking is back but only like halfly, when going over a bump in the road, but most noticeble when making a turn I hear a knock so guessing when the load transfers to one of the front sides. Can an ARB actually knok by moving left to right? I’m clueless atm :o

Yes the D bushes can cause this, could also be track rod ends as when worn out they knock when turning. Does it do it only when driving or does it knock when parking too?

I actually heard a loud knock when reversing from my driveway yesterday, not when parking actually only while moving, actually have new console bushes and lower control arms in as well since I saw light cracks in the console bushes but I guess Ill check the droplinks again even though they are new meyles...

Could the problem also be the fact that the rubbers holding the ARB to the chassis are worn? They haven’t been changed and my garage said there’s no play in them come to him...

Update: found the issue one of he droplinks has already failed, which I find verry strange after just 5 days of them being on the car...

That is very odd. I have Meyle HD ones on mine. They've been on the car a couple of years and no problems.

I’ve just had the ARB links replaced on my 2007 Octavia VRS TSI. Five days later the knocking noise is back even worse than before. I’m not clued up on mechanics but is it safe to drive?

Maybe one of them was not tightened enough and has come slightly loose. Jack the car up and use a bar to see if there is any movement both top & bottom.

They are mayle HD’s and I did so when checking all bolts are still to spec one joint is turning infinately atm, I find it verry odd, drove 200 km’s on them or so but while backing out the driveway I heard a loud bang and then it started so I’m guessing it’s just my unluck, getting a new one through amazon (because DOA) so no problemo :) just another week of noises coming from the car haha :’)
