Does anyone know how to get the silver top part of the gear knob off so I can replace it with a new one?

 

It just isn't obvious.

 

Drill the hole and use screwdriver to remove old one. You can try to use flat screwdriver and try to lift it up from the bottom but you can damage gear knob. Can you fitting points on replacement cover?

This is right solution, you need to be carefull but it wont damage it that easy.

Its easy peasy job to do
