Thinking of Re-map Octy 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi I know there is loads of info out there on this matter, but i'm after some true opinions and advice thats up to date.

I have read getting the uprated haldex unit is worth while, but to be honest I've never lost traction.

I have conned my wife into letting me get a re-map, (in exchange for a rabbit!!).

I want my car to accelerate quicker than it does, but not bothered about top speed.

I can only afford a generic re-map, and it looks like the Jabba is the cheapest.

I would like it to be stored on a unit such as an SPS, does Jabba offer this? (This would not be a must though)

Do you need to book a long time in advance for Jabba?

I'm also doing my cam belt on Tuesday so that should be fun, hope its not too dificult!!!

Thanks for the help:)

You mean you've never made use of the 4x4? The standard haldex triggers on 15 degrees of slip (from memory) so really you shouldn't notice the loss of traction before the haldex engages to prevent wheelspin. I'd hope you've used the 4x4 but just not noticed! I have no experience of the upgraded haldex but people seem to say it reduces the understeer under power when cornering and triggers more quickly which can only be good.

Your car will certainly accelerate quicker with a remap, vastly so, but higher top speed comes free with the package. Jabba doesn't offer anything like an SPS though does offer a boost controller which allows you twiddle from stock to full remap boost or anywhere in between. For info though, with Revo the remap is not stored in the SPS, the SPS just controls the program placed in the ecu. I don't think there is such a thing as a plug in remap for the 1.8t.

Don't forget to do the water pump and tensioner with your cambelt.

thanks for the info, got the new water pump and tensioner comming too. so over all Worth the money? will I have a big smile??

Oh yes! 150bhp to 210hp+, 150lbft to 230lbft+, oh yes! My only advice would be to use peoples' recommendations, particularly on how the power/torque is delivered, to guide your choice. Don't look too critically at the figures, some are high, some spot on and some low, the way it drives is ultimately more important. PM if you want my thoughts, an open forum is not the best way.

What are you trying to say Dave? Could you PM me your thoughts too? :)

if you are in kent, would recommend having a chat with Berretta ( Gerry) really friendly guy who has an Octy VRS remapped by Impossible performance, they were one of the companies on my list ( went APR as the guys at Awesome GTI are local and always give great service and products).

Heard nothing but good stuff about the work that IP are doing, just a little too far south for me! Sure Gerry or Des would oblige with a test drive!!

the uprated haldex controller is nothing about better traction but changes the dynamic of the car, changes the way it behhaves under power.

a remap is easily the best bang for buck upgrade, some others have gone further like myself with FMIC, coil overs, big brakes, uprated exhausts, manifolds, turbo's etc etc but you very quickly start spending a lot more money for gains that some don't notice/appreciate :)

so where in the country are you? your more than welcome to experience my car if your anywhere near oxford, i have all the mods i mentioned above apart from the bigger turbo :)

The first bit of power tuning on my car was a Jabba remap which totally transformed the car, the BHP they achieve is good but the biggest plus is the way it drives.

They have since also remapped our Diesel, again similar stunning results.

My 4x4 is now very heavily tweaked & is knocking out about 350 bhp. To date the haldex has taken it without any mods & I only loose traction occasionally. I will add I dont do traffic light starts so I guess I could loose it if I tried that.

Bengies description for the controller is about right.

I have cured the Understeer by various suspension mods.

Sorry for the late replies, went to bed early then at work all day!

Thanks for the response, Not sure who IP Is Daver?

Think I'm most likely to go for the Jabba, It seems the cheapest, I'm In Canterbury Kent, so a fair travell, but could be worse.

IP = Impossible Performance. By all accounts they have been doing some VERY good work on the 1.8T lump recently... thats not saying they didnt before its just we hadnt had any members use them fully.

Jabba is the most popular on her, i think they have the longest running "relationship" with Briskoda members, other to look into would be the Cusom Code JBS offer, APR from Awesome and dont discount AMD and the various Revo tuners dotted around the country.

amd are alright but veeery expensive and don't tune the car as hard.

If you are in kent, IP are in Medway City Estate. What could be easier.

I'm in Crayford, Kent.

My 4x4 Estate has the Impossible Performance map.

Mike (at Impossible) is a realy nice gezza, talk to him 01634 710 777, you'll be spot on with the IP map.

Plus, it's local, if you want it "tweeked" in any way, he's just round the corner.

PM me if you want a test drive.

Well I think I'm decided on the re-map from I.P. I shall give them a call tomorrow in the hope I can get it booked in early this week as I'm going away. doing my cambelt tuesday night, then final job is to get those damn ARB checked out, getting a bad knocking at slow speeds over bumpy roads.

Thanks for the advice, I shall return to let you know my smile factor!!
