Jabba Rear ARB Owners

Featured Replies

Just a quick query for Jabba Rear ARB owners:

T'other day when I driving home from work I was going around a roundabout briskly but not too fast for the conditions (which was sunny but with rain still on the roads) The back end shot out quite suddenly, which resulted in a heart-stopping drift which I managed to control.

This has occured before but as a result of pushing the car too hard for its capabilities.

Basically, I was just curious as to whether or not ARB owners had also experienced this?

Thanks in advice.

Not yet. Were you lifting off by any chance? I was told the rear end would step out a bit around roundabouts on lift-off.

I did lift off slightly, yes.

I did lift off slightly, yes.

Without the rear ARB what would have happened would have been you would have simply drifted out - Thats understeer I think? Rear ARB tightens up the ar5e so when the car is pushed too far its not the front end which will give way first - its the stiffer ar5e.

I'm still not 100% confident throwing my car about so not experienced this yet.... note... yet..... :D

Thanks Jason.

At the end of the day I think its just my hardcore handling expectations being too high

With the rear arb fitted, the car will definitely kick it's tail out quite easily - the key to taking a corner at good speed is getting the car balanced using the throttle. If you feel the front end understeering, you just need to lift enough to neutralise the weight distribution of the car... the rear will then follow you round - suprisingly well at that. However, if you lift off sharply or if you are in a lower gear that gives greater engine braking, the back end will kick round pretty quickly - very easy to pull it back in line with the throttle but you need to be aware that this may happen and be prepared for it. With the arb, the car is much more sensitive to throttle input than without it...

I am still slightly wary of heavy braking in a corner with the arb fitted... before it was on the car, heavy braking mid corner would make the car tuck in quite sharply and it is more pronounced now - I just hope the rear brakes are able to balance the car effectively in an emergency situation to stop a spin, however I haven't had any issues with this as yet. Definitely one of the best mods to my car though - much more 'go-cart' like than before...

Yes, if close to the limit and you lift, expect some oversteer from the weight transfer. If you decide to dab the brakes mid corner, same result again due to weight transfer.

This usually happens only when approaching or on the limit. If driving slowly, then these symtoms don't exist

Do you have ESP fitted?

I think this would have sorted it out maybe?

Actually ESP made it rather more interesting in that it really yanked the car back into shape. This was on an empty road and not going particularly fast, just doing a (set of) totally OTT sharp steering movement(s) and the car got pretty aggressive on following my instructions, before it would have slid around a bit, now it just 'did it'. This wasn't on the limit as such but I'm wondering with the Quaife if I'd be better off removing the rear ARB again

The Rear ARB rules... simple as that :D

It will start to drift if you lift off mid corner, but its easy to get back with a dab on the throttle.

point is, the back end will step out if your abrupt on steering and throttle..

Tavia RS had a nice experiment... when his SDI was @ anglesey he was goin round with esp ON... and it didnt trigger because he was driving smoothly.

Thanks Jason.

Could get an upgrade for the front ARB too? :D

so ESP would have sorted it out then just as it's designed to. Not that it can defy physics but it would have helped .

.... and my wife said " we won't bump our heads on that ugly green thing when getting into the car" when i first got my rear ARB

Your now cornering a little quicker and have to find the new limits instead off running wide you can gently correct it.

Col are you testing the rear brace as well. :)

why would you bump your head on it?

Thanks to all for your comments, much appreciated.

I'll be collecting my ARB at WSM meet, and I am a little concerned. I am quite aware that you need more driving skill to corner quickly near the limit, but tbh I'm not sure I have that skill...

Bring on the next track day for experimenting :D
