Software & sat nav updates

Featured Replies

My 2014 Yeti Adventure is due its second service and MOT very reasonable cost from main dealer. Does / will any map / software updates be part of this?

They do not do the map updates free.
If you have the Amundsen II (post October 2014) you can download fresh maps for free off the Skoda update portal but pre November you have to buy the map updates.

Has anyone had the free map update installed without demanding it be done?.

I am sure they woud do it if you asked them to.

However it takes hours to download and unpack the free update onto the sdcard, even if you have a fast connection.

As it is otherwise straightforward to do, not sure why you would want to pay probably £100+ for their time, to do it for you?

It is not includd in the standard service, just like changing brakepads etc would be an extra if found to be needed. Most Skodas will not even have sat nav fitted anyway.

but the Amundsen+ cannot be updated with/by a simple download etc -- you have to buy the preloaded sd card and use that, first use, it is 'locked' electronically to the unit and as such will not work in other Amundsen+ units

2 weeks ago my Sat Nav came up with the message "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data" this was the first time I had need to use the Sat Nav since last year.

I rang my local dealer DM Keith's in Leeds and was told that I could download the SD card information free from the Skoda Update site, I also wanted some more small jobs

done as the car is still under warranty so booked the car in for that work.

I tried to download the new maps to my SD card which took ages and I still got the same message when the card was inserted in the Sat Nav, took me ages to work out that you need to

download the info to your computer first and then unpack it to the SD card, this took about an hour. Still got the same message so when I took the car in to the garage I told the receptionist

that my Sat Nav still wasn't working, I left the car with them to sort out,

I rang them about 3pm to see if my car was ready for collection and was told that the SD card worked in other cars Sat Nav's but not mine, they had contacted the technical department

in Milton Keynes for assistance, she said I could collect the car as the other work had been done and they would contact me when they had an answer from Skoda.

I got my son to take me to the garage and got there about 5pm, walked in and the receptionist handed me my keys and said the Sat Nav was now working, Skoda had

said that it needed a software update which they did and this solved the problem.

I needed to use the Sat Nav on Thursday and it wouldn't allow me to put the full postcode in, the last digit was Q and this was greyed out on the display, I had a rough idea

where I needed to go and managed to get there. Yesterday I tried to put another destination in for a journey tomorrow and after a bit of playing around with the display

it came up with another smaller screen which allowed me to enter the full postcode, so it looks like the software upgrade has made some changes to the unit.

So if anyone see's a Jungle Green L&K wandering around Doncaster tomorrow you know it still isn't working (Just joking)

f/l yeti do not have Amundsen+ fitted, a completely different beastto the later Amundsen(?), late pre f/l's use the Amundsen+, do a search , others have explained this situation more fully!

Some FL Yeti are fitted with the Amundsen + unit. Only later did the change come to Amundsen 2 units.

Changed to Amundsen II November 2014 so the Amundsen+ was fitted for about a year in the F/L.

^  &  ^^   ok apologies, doesn't change the fact all Adventure models were all produced in 2013 with Amundsen+ so not possible to download updates!!

Thanks Frenchtone and all. That all helps I stuck the VIN number into the Skoda site and says not possible to download. So I doubt Skoda will have other software up date not including the sat nav ones.

This is a pity as there is wrong info on the Skoda Sat nav, in particular speed limits in and around Southampton. At least Garmin is easy and free and only takes a couple of minutes to update the unit.

hanks for the replies

did you update the unit?

It seems to me that Original fit SatNavs must ultimately become obsolete. Smartphone SatNav apps are getting better and better and with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay the display is presented full size on the cars digital display. Most also now voice controlled and have live traffic updates and re-routing around hold-ups. Car Makers seem to be always one step behind and playing catch up and inevitably after a couple of years the OEM fit SatNav is technically dated even if the maps are updated regularly.

NO IT'S NOT -it's due its FOURTH service!

They are supposed to be serviced annually as a minimum! Oil degrades over time and i'd hate to think what the innards of your engine will be like if you continue to mistreat it!

If his Yeti is on variable servicing, then ITS NOT annual.
