Octavia, Bigger Turbo dosent mean worse economy

Featured Replies

As many know I recently had the Jabba IHI conversion on my 4x4 & Ive also had fitted Octy RS gearbox internals to give higher ratios.

I have been finding that the average mpg driven normally for me had gone from the low-mid 20's to the mid20's/low 30's.

However yesterday I had to drive my car back to Jabba to get a bigger clutch fitted, the existing clutch had cried ENOUGH & was slipping badly so it meant a gentler than normal drive.

From Winchester To Peterborough is mainly Motorway/Dual carriageway so a steady cruise at 65-70 was easy, acceleration was incredibly gentle & the M25 flowed reosnably well.

According to the cars read out at the end I had covered 155 miles at a staggering average of 45.6 mpg & the best bit was I still had enough fuel for another 405 gentle miles :) :)

I think this prooves beyond all doubt that a well thought out Turbo Conversion by a reputable company will give stunning performance (350 bhp) & yet economy can also improve

Im one incredibly satisfied Jabba customer

Stu,

MFA read out will be out due to the new injectors but that said I get around 350 miles to a tank with mixed road driving.

A fall of about 30miles/tank from pre IHI......so not too bad.

Have really tried an economy style run yet as it's very difficult not to boot it everywhere.;):D

I get 280 miles from a tank of sensible driving :(

Agreed but I understand its not that far out.

I am definately getting more per tank on average driving Ignoring what the read out says, The best I ever managed before driving like a Granny on a Motorway run was about 32 & I certainly could not have done Peterborough on 1/4 of a tank be it 45 mpg or not

I used to get 425miles out of a tank pre-remap.

It must be something to do with the turbo coming in later and not being used much when cruising.

280ish for me too, but 2nd/3rd gear back roads all the way ;):D

I went out in my mates tuned Volvo 850R last week. Stock 850R's will average about 23-25 mpg, and can stretch into 30mpg on a run. However he has an enormous Mitsubishi 19T turbo with a 4 stage custom remap. He averages almost 28mpg with town driving. It is staggering the difference it makes having a big turbo.

:rubchin:

I wonder where I have heard this before.

Anyway I've got you all beat. :P

I bet i spend less on petrol than all of you lot ;)

Especially when it sits at you know where for a long period of time...............Sorry Dave, but could not resist that one.

Well ours will all be getting changed to the bigger turbo's at some point soon.

Especially the higher mileage cars on here.

72,500 miles showing now in 2 and half years!!!!!!
