Oil change required in 29 days

Featured Replies

I have a 2015 Scout 2.0L 150 bhp.  I bought it from Motorpoint when it was 2 years old and it had 14,000 on the clock.  I has done over the past year another 6,000.  It had a 2-year service before sale.  Therefore does it need an oil change as requested and if so who should do it?  It has an extended warranty, but was bought for cash, so is not subject to a PCP or a finance agreement.

Yes it is probably on fixed servicing so needs an oil change every year. You could have it done by any garage provided they use genuine parts (filters etc) but in order to keep Skoda on side it might be best to have it done by a Skoda dealer. I would recommend Victoria garage in Maud, got to be better than specialist cars in Aberdeen!

Even though it has not done 30,000 miles but is 3 years old i would think on getting the Haldex Serviced.

Brake fluid change due at 3 years as well.

Am I the only one who doesn't take any notice of what the car says and just gets it serviced every year regardless of whether it's telling you to give them money or not? (It does help that I do low mileage.)

Probably not, given that the official fixed schedule is 1 year or 10k. Plenty of owners are on this schedule and get it done once a year as per the manufacturer recommendation. Generally only fleet + higher mileage drivers tend to take the variable route for 2 years / 18k.

If the car is on fixed service intervals (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) then you'd have no reason to ignore the car as it'd flag for a service at the same time each year, if you're covering less than 10,000 miles per year.

You can view the number of days / miles until the next service through the car's central screen.

Unless the service interval was reset to fixed (12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever is reached first) before you bought the car then it'll still be on variable (up to 20,000 miles or 2 years, the car monitors the oil and decides for itself when it needs fresh oil).

If the car is a keeper, and you're only covering 6,000 miles per year then you should be on a fixed (annual) service interval. Fresh engine oil is the lifeblood of engine and turbo longevity.
