Guys....

In need of a a bit of help and advice.

So I originally ordered wireless charging and smart link at £80 as a option.

Anyway this never got delivered due to the well published/spoken about phone box issue.

That’s fine, however I have been charged for wireless RSE app. I apparently ordered this, I can’t recall it even being an option let alone being charged for something I was never aware of and was informed at the time of order that this was the wireless charging when asked.

Wireless charging was the only £80 option I had on the build not this rear seat entertainment app :wondering:

now the dealer is telling that was what I ordered (not wireless charging) and tough luck sunshine :dull::angry:

Below is my order form and car wow build.

So so my questions are...

was this even an option? And what the heck is it?

And what hat can I do about it as I’m getting nowhere with my dealer/dealership?

Thanks in advanced...

Between you adding the desired options on Carwow and the dealer inputting the order into the system something has got mixed up.

Wireless charging is much more expensive than £80. It looks to me as though the description on Carwow is wrong.

They've described the £80 'Wireless RSP app' as the £550 'Phonebox with wireless charging, WLAN and LTE'.

If this is the case, the dealer should really have questioned the disconnect between the description and the price...

Found this on a Skoda site (why the hell you would want the back seat drivers to have this functionality betas me!) :

Rear Seat Entertainment system allows two tablets attached to the back of the front headrests to be connected to the infotainment system via the Wi-Fi hotspot. This enables navigational destinations to be transferred from the tablet’s address book and calendar as well as allowing the infotainment system to be controlled from the back seat.

Given that two tablet holders were also on the original order might support why the dealer didn't question the choice of the rear seat entertainment option.

Well that clears a lot of my confusion lol. Explains a lot though but still wonder how I’ve got to this situation and has anyone else gone through the same.

I never wanted RSE app and didn’t see it as an option. How strange? So I guess this is a carwow **** up in a sense?

Who do I speak to? Dealer, carwow or Skoda UK?

Wouldn't mind if it was an extra worth having but it’s seems pretty poor for £80 and was not shown how to use this either. I have no use for it at all tbh.

Did you actually buy the car from one of the Carwow dealers that came up on your enquiry, or did you use the best Carwow price to get a better deal elsewhere?

If you followed the Carwow process and used one of their retailers then I'd start with Carwow.

If the Carwow option was actually described as 'wireless charging' for £80 then the bulk of the blame lies with Carwow, however I'd suggest an element of blame lies with the Skoda retailer too as they should be well aware that this feature is much more expensive, and therefore questioned it with you before placing the order with the factory.

What isn't clear is the process that the dealer follows to take the information from the Carwow enquiry and to then place the actual order. If the dealer has taken the description as it is in Carwow they should have ordered wireless charging. To get it wrong they've had to take the price, and find a different factory option with that price and order that instead.

It looks like you added the RSE and tablet holders.

I guess some people choose to sit in back (eg next to a baby), so might like to be able to control something.

(there are probably also some people who get their tech savvy teenagers to do the map / navigation input)

Presumably adding the tablet holders suggested you intend to carry people in back seats, so the RSE wasn't queried

My guess is that the more expensive £550 option wasn't listed on the non Skoda site you picked from, so you chose the £80 RSE version (£66.66 + vat) as shown on order, without checking the Skoda brochure for what it was.

Hi RobinK. The rear seat tablet facility is useful when you have kids. A DVD can be put into the Columbus unit and transmitted to the tablets in the rear. Pretty useful I would say.

Misspelling

If Carwow were listing is as Smartlink with wireless phone charging and you used the dealer that quoted through Carwow then I would definitely go to Carwow first as this is simply misleading

Hi  Livrishind - I was being a bit flippant and I'm sure you are right.

It's a result of having some little horrors (niece & nephews - love them but may have to kill them types!) in the back of my S2 recently.

My three dogs are easier. They don't want to have a turn doing the windows, trying the seat heating in 27 C to see who can stand it longest... and now the thought of the beloved little ones controlling the satnav (would I ever go anywhere other than ToyWorld!?)  and playing Bobs the Builders Greatest Hits on demand......Oh Gawd....

Can't speak to the other options, but just to add grist to your mill, Smartlink is standard across all Karoq models. So anyone telling you you're paying £80 partly for it is mistaken.

Phoned them and their escape is the fact it was on a signed order form before the build was placed.

They just said to insist on the dealer to sort it.

Will call all the motor trade ombudsman tomorrow and see what they say before calling the dealer or they can be the mediator as I’ve had enough of the dealers attitude.

Any further forward with this problem ?

What a pain it has been haha.

Well contacted the ombudsman and said they can’t do anything until at least 8 weeks after I first made the complaint, but they did offer some sound advice.

They said to mentioned I’ve spoke to them and that the car wasn’t as described/ expected and to request an agreement.

I heard a few hours later from the dealer to say they are offering to refund the £80...after the hassle i was happy to accept that and for me it was a bit of a result.

Would advice anyone that that has any hassle to contact the ombudsman for advice.

A good dealer should go through options with you, that's what we did when got quote off carwow, cause I didn't want any issues

Good luck

You would of thought so. I did ask a few questions when doing it as at first he thought my build was an edition :dull:

Never mind, sorted now and can’t be happier with the car it’s self. Safe to say I won’t be returning there in a hurry.

Some time ago there were some news items suggesting that with the new WLTP emissions rules coming into play that there would be more “package options” rather than individual options.  This would be because each option may well need it’s own emissions test?

i certainly found costing a car nowadays very complex with options being selected and then being offered required additions or deletions to get what I wanted.

When I opted for the Subaru XV 2018 there were four car option choices, two based on engine size and two on trim.  There were items that were dealer fitted but not factory, simple. Effectively each option had the assist driver technology as standard so no real compromise.

it seems to me that as the brand levels rise the options are purely used to hike the price they can then advertise a low base price which has no relationship to what you might have to pay in reality, switch selling at its best.

Much the same for me ,three different metallic colours at no extra cost was the only option, but I did spec a 1.5 karrot se up to the same and it was an extra £7000 list ,so guess what my option was?
