wltp vrs 245 power cut ?

Featured Replies

Why would anything in that article suggest a power drop for the 245? Skoda have already committed to 245 being standard?

No exciting MY19 changes to the Octavia really but some info on VRS engine availability

Some info here

No "about"  in that,

but then everything can be subject to change.

Sooner the WLTP figures are published the better.

I suspect the 245 is a PS figure not a bhp figure.

Since 1PS = 0.98632bhp that would make 245PS = 241.648bhp

makes a lot of sense and you could well be right, but it's the about that would concern me if I was looking to buy.

we know from the seat article that fitting these ppf drops the power output, so unless skoda/vag can adjust it back up again, then the sames gonna happen to the vrs.

I believe vag are still doing testing at the moment, but once the vrs becomes available to order again, they'll need to have some concrete figures, about is not good enough imo

But the Seat uses the 300/290PS version which is more highly tuned so more susceptible to effect from the PPF/GPF, the effect on the 245 version is going to be lower so it's much more likely that a small tweak to the engine management will keep the power at 245PS.

And anyway could you really tell the difference between 241 and 245? Aytron Senna might have been able to but us mere mortals?

This, they aren't the same complete engine despite sharing the same EA888 block. I don't see how the slight reduction on the Cupra means the 245ps variant in the Octavia is affected - possible yes, but not directly linked.

Seat are even keeping the 300 variant for the 4drive version, so I wonder if it's Seat taking the opportunity to provide some product variation and using the WLTP as the reason.

According to AmD rolling road back on 12/03/2018 a standard VRS245 running on Shell V-Power produces 248.6BHP. 95 octane standard unleaded may give nearer to Skoda official 241.6BHP.

They are getting the emissions required with GPF's and the Co2 g/km under testing that can be reproduced when retested, so horses for courses,

or models for the market / customer, so cars for Business & Leasing.

No point having the PS & Nm if the VED / Co2 is too high.   No point having it if the WLTP shows to high fuel consumption.

The 'Overboost' engines / Software that was about kidology and showing higher PS figures might just be over with, as will be pops and crackles and overfueling

as Ford did with the Eco-boost engines as well, and exhaust systems with 'flaps' and noise on demand, Ford, BMW / MINI, VW / Audi....
