What Tork or Spline Size to remove Door Lock Mechanism

Featured Replies

Hi,

The passenger side window has failed in the down position on my 2005 Fabia. I have found lots of info on here about replacing the regulator but cant find what bit I need to undo the two main screws that secure the locking mechanism to the door.

I have a T45 Torx but it seems a little loose and I don't want to risk stripping the head if its the wrong size.

Can anyone let me know what I need - Torx or SPline and size?

Thanks

Jon

If you mean the ones in the door edge that secure the lock unit they are 8mm XZN spline. Using a Torx bit would damage them.

Animal. Use the correct tools.

Try it and see!!

I even used a big flat blade to remove the one that holds the door mirror in place.

You can buy the spline set from machine mart cheap enough. I have one now as I needed it for the driveshaft bolts on my old mk2 golf.

Got a feeling it might be smaller, possibly M6, compare with the one that holds the door check strap on, that's an M8.

Door check strap bolt and the lock bolts are both M8. I tried an M8 bit in them before I posted the info just to be sure.

Apologies folks; Lee I read your post minus my reading glasses and didn't spot the '8mm'.

Had it in my head that it was a smaller bit.
