Help! 75K 2010 1.6tdi cr has loss of power & stalling

Recommended Posts

Any advice really welcome please, thanks very much in advance.

I have to rev it over 2000rpm to get up hills or it stalls.

Last week the engine wouldn't start on hills when was very hot, then after changing the fuel filter, it was better but lots of juddering and loss of power up hills.

Thought cooling fan didn't come in but it did after 30min doing injector cleaning process after I did a liqui moly injector purge today but it made no difference.

After the engine cooled I just managed to get up a hill.

I guess a  blocked air filter would not cause it?

Problems started after I ran the tank low but they cleared after about a month. Then this started happening out of the blue 2 months later. So I have just changed the fuel filter and done the injector purge but I don't know what to do now?

It has no service history except what i just listed. So no emissions fix whatever that is for (dpf?) (Thank you Ofski)

Have long have you had this car? - no service history suggests it may be a comparatively recent purchase.

If so, did you get it from a skoda dealer, or was it a private sale?

Are there any warning lights showing?

Even though you say it's not MAF, it certainly sounds like an air flow issue to me.  A scan may bring up an error code for it even though you didn't get a light on the dash.

Hi all, thanks for your commemts.

I have only had it a few months and was bought privately.  I live out innrhe wilds of West Wales.

It is now in a trusted local garage. I wonder if it could be an EGR valve fault?

The dpf light was not on.

I should of checked the air filter before taking it in..

It was not able to get up hills and had to run it back down the hill luckily at 4am on country roads and after 30 min could get up them.

A couple of months ago the dpf had read onky a partial block. I have not done regular hour long journeys for about a month and do usual 15min low revs welly journeys now.

So will do regular monthly 3000rpm 20 min trashes

There is the Alarm Issue you had as well, and the other posts threads has various stuff in them like the 'intermittent overheating',

are you sure the car was never in and had 'The Fix',  does it show as outstanding on the VIN checker?

Might be an issue if it had 'the fix' and someone tried to remap as a roll back', maybe the flow device is still fitted, so many maybe's.

you need the car checked out by those in the know, so hopefully where you have it know their stuff on VW Group engines.

I was thinking emissions fix problems as well, especially if an old bloke owned it, he would have just have them do the work (providing it was still being driven).  Check the VIN code as Offski says on the Skoda website and see if yours has been done.  (Assuming that you have replaced the air and fuel filters as previously recommended)

If it has been "fixed", call up the emissions helpline and request a service action on your car, they will repair it for free, make sure you ask for a loan car as well.  Then take it to an independent for a service.  Then if it seems ok, get it rolled back.

If it hasn't been done, take it to a VAG specialist (Im not sure where you are located so cannot recommend one) to diagnose it and also get a service done on it by an independent.

I read a very similar problem to yours on the Audi website, I would have expected a coil-light come on though if you had the exact same issue which makes me think the MAF is dirty.  http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/181424-1-6-tdi-losing-power   The person on the Audi forum had the problem of the EGR valve sticking open, so the car effectively wants to stall, I suspect the EGR getting hot made the stickiness increase.

Archoil AR6400dmax is quite good for freeing up problematic EGRs and is recommended by the guys on the rollback forums, however, yours could be beyond the point of no return if the EGR is indeed the issue.

Thanks for all the help again. Iy is with a mechamic and i don't know if they have diagnostics

But will phone them soon. They eill check the air filter.

I haven't been able to check the VIN as moved and mislaid the log book. I will ask the mechanic for it from the car.

The emissions fix is something inhale not heard of before.

I had a fabia petrol and it was so reliable did 50k and was perfect.  If thirsty. Hopefully when this is sorted either dpf or egr clean or gets the fix. I will keep it well revved to be on top of the dpf.

The alarm is very intermittent and onky once a month or so and xoukd be a mew battery specifically for that will sort it.

It was an old guy who owned it apparently nefore the part exchange.

So will see whay the garage say soon

Garage just said diaganostics os showing that the group A injectors are faulty and just one of the paid is short circuiting and only when gets to certain revs. About £300 to replace one. Might be two need replacing but hopefully one will fix it. Dpf is fine.

He will order injector now.

Amy other advice about this as basicly wanting to save money and also get the best solution obviously.

Really appreciate all your experience as this is only my second car after my trusted thirsty petrol fabia

Quick Google search about the software recall and I won't be having the fix. As it tries to make the emissions lower but egr etc can't handle it. So keep it as it is.

Still wonder why injector short circuited. Perhaps just wear and tear after 75k?
