Two months old - a few niggles - 2.0TDI DSG Edition 2wd

Featured Replies

So  just over 2 months of ownership, and covered almost 4000 miles.

A few niggles.   Hopefully someone can assist with the questions.

I should point out that I think the car is great – Very comfortable and great to drive.

MPG is amazing too - long term average is a smidge under 50mpg.  It also achieved just over 60mpg on a trip from North Wales to Hertfordshire.

The Niggles.

SOS

About once a week an alert comes up saying that there is a problem with the SOS  call assistance  - I can’t remember the exact wording – but it says to contact Skoda.  After less than a minute – the alarm is gone and all is fine.  Anyone else had this?  I have ignored it as it always goes away.

Drive Mode

How can I make the car stay in ECO without me having to reset it each time. (Is there a way?!)

Bluetooth telephone - Not nearly as clear as my 6 year old Octavia.  It’s not the phone as the missus has the same issue with a different phone. No problem for the driver -It is the person on the other end of the phone that cannot hear.

Start /Stop – No issue that others are having with it turning off too soon.. but an issue that it does not always work – An ‘A’ comes up on the instrument panel with a line thru  when I think it ‘should’ be on.  Any ideas?  The start stop button is activated in the centre console.

SatNav – Seems to take weird options – Not like my tomtom in the Octavia would make – I have a sim card set up in the car – but it doesn’t take what I consider to be the fastest route – even when selecting the fastest option.

Any thoughts/opinions on these please?

Thanks -

Drive Mode  - nope, I haven’t heard of anyone finding how to keep the full mode (incl gears) in “eco”.

Start Stop - there are many reasons why the system will prefer the engine to stay on, including such things as low engine temp, low battery charge, strong demand on the aircon or charging systems, sloping ground (so you’ll need powered brakes and steering if it moves), position of steering (so it thinks you’re mid manoeuvre), whether the flashers are on (ditto) and what the recent pattern of driving has been.  When you get the crossed-out-A symbol on screen, you can call up the (main) reasons for which the system is inoperative, but, as it says in the handbook, the combination of factors is such that you can’t necessarily know why it has chosen not to stop!

Sat Nav - when you have the sim card feeding traffic data, it’s so up to date that it might be taking into account short-term holdups on your usual route, that make the suggested route actually quicker.  The holdups show (I think in red lines?) on the map.

two main reasons for no start stop is due to

a ) not going over 10kph between stops

b )lower battery

The stop / start system is quite a complicated process with a varying number of influences...

Conditions for the automatic engine shut down (stop phase):

  • The gearshift lever is in Neutral.
  • The clutch pedal is not depressed.
  • The driver has fastened the seat belt.
  • The driver's door is closed.
  • The bonnet is closed.
  • The vehicle is at a standstill.
  • The engine is at operating temperature.
  • The charge state of the vehicle battery is sufficient.
  • The stationary vehicle is not on a steep slope or a steep downhill section.
  • The engine speed is less than 1200 1/min.
  • The temperature of the vehicle battery is not too low or too high.
  • There is sufficient pressure in the braking system.
  • The difference between the outdoor- and the set temperature in the interior is not too great.
  • The vehicle speed since the last time the engine was switched off was greater than 3 km/h.
  • The front wheels are not turned excessively (the steering angle is less than 3/4 of a steering wheel revolution).

Conditions for an automatic restart (start phase):

  • The clutch is depressed.
  • The max./min. temperature is set.
  • The Defrost function for the windshield is switched on.
  • A high blower stage has been selected.
  • The START STOP button is pressed.

Conditions for an automatic restart without driver intervention:

  • The vehicle moves at a speed of more than 3 km/h.
  • The difference between the outdoor- and the set temperature in the interior is too great.
  • The charge state of the vehicle battery is not sufficient.
  • There is insufficient pressure in the braking system.

Both of these need a trip to the dealer.

I've found the opposite with the Bluetooth in our Kodiaq, clear as a bell when the wife rang me at home from the car the other day, especially compared to our MkII Octavia. Sounds like an issue with the microphone, perhaps something has got in it's way during assembly?

I guess unless you are able to take what you believe to be the fastet route you'll never know if it actually is faster or not. The Sat Nav takes into account the levels of congestion.

No Sat Nav is infallible so sometimes they can be ignored or deviated from.

I find the Bluetooth very difficult to hear even with volume up. Glad it isnt just me. No advice on a solution though.

Thanks all for the responses.  I'm going to give the dealer a call on Monday.

With regard to the satnav - my old tomtol used to be connected to my mobile - so ws getting up to date info on traffic too.  it just seems odd.. maybe it is me..!

Hi

I was wondering if you ever got a solution to the drive mode not restarting fully in ECO ?  I just noticed this on my Kodiaq last week and it is quite an annoying niggle for me.  Did you contact your dealer about it ?

Thanks.

Warranty Exclusions that often Dealers Quote are 6 months / 6,500 mile.  Wear and tear, panel fit etc. (actually often wrongly 6,000 miles)

So get all issues reported to an Approved Repairer, logged on the system, investigated and repaired,

and have everything in writing.

Save Skoda / VW saying 'Never heard of that before'.   Or not covered by Warranty.

& for niggles and understanding stuff.

Read Owners Manual cover to cover, look for Typos, and if any or rubbish in Owners Manual tell Skoda UK Customer Services in writing if a UK supplied car.

That's not a fault, it's an annoying feature.
