Dashboard dimmer wiring

Featured Replies

I'm considering following this guide so that my dashboard remains illuminated even when the exterior lights are off. Driving in the bright summer sun with sunglasses I cannot see the speedo, etc. It's all just blackness down there.

I can't get to the car right now so would appreciate if anyone has some hi-res photos of the wiring that goes to the headlight switch and the dimmer control next to it. Specifically I wish to clearly see the order and colour of the wires please? I have googled but found nothing satisfactory.

Wiring diagrams, other that what I already have from the Haynes manual, would be appreciated too.

Anyone?

Why don't you just run with the lights turned on all the time? I drive on headlights all the time, got into the habit on the bike.

Isn't that illegal/dangerous as you are causing undue dazzle to oncoming traffic. Besides it would wear out the bulbs much faster.

Regardless, I have since found the information I needed on page 34 of this document...

I've done it for a long time, as a defence if someone cuts me up etc . Seems to the 4x4 brigade that we Fabia drivers are invisible. Perhaps someone in Skoda might design a shield ( as in Startrek) . Better still, phasors and Photon torpedoes.

A woman nearly T-boned me one dark, rainy night last year because she had one of those cars where the dash cluster is constantly lit and she thought she had her lights on but she had no lights on at all. I pulled out on her because I just didn't see her in the dark and bad weather. I don't know who comes up with these idiotic ideas.

No it isn't illegal,

Dipped headlights, correctly adjusted with legal bulbs.

Pretty sure that I don't dazzle anybody due to the amount of idiots that still pull out on me in the day and the amount of gobsh*tes that are that blind they have to run with front fog lights on- unless its foggy.

I've done 325,000 km in the car and put 9 bulbs in the front headlamps, 3 side lamp bulbs, 3# plate bulbs and 1 tail light brake/fog.
