hi Dan_P

I', looking at the same thing my self.I looked at the built in unit but decided against mainly on grounds of cost but also want the facility to have a map display ,use postcode and connect it to my laptop or pc for routing.

it looks like the choice is either the Garmin streetpilot 3 or a pda with tomtom2.have seen the garmin in action and it looks great and had good reports on the forum but the pda can do other things as well (including camera locations)

so still wondering....hope to decide and get something this week .....dell have got some cheap deals now..

Looks really nice, John! Are you bringing the vRS or the Superb to Duxford? Mrs Fen likes the Superb, so I'm sure she will be jealous if you do!

can the dealer fit it or does it have to be a factory job?

it looks seriously nice. oooohhh tempted but allready have car on order without it...............

does it do DVD/mp3 and stuff too????

Heres some details of the unit fitted in Octavias and Superbs at least up to September 2003 after this date I know the production line are now fitting a different unit may be as an alternative, all I know after a trip to CZ last week is that it has TMC integrated in the unit rather than an external TMC tuner box. I have seen that for teh Superb the Skoda press docs for the Aug revised Superb stated "simple nav" as an option - I think this will probably mean a single din unit similar to Quintens but I am only guessing so dont hold me on it.

The OE version is a double din unit thats the equivilent of the VW MFD version "D" Blaupunt 5" colour unit. The main differences are that green lighting is utilised for the Skoda version with a different colour for the VW version to suit the dash lighting. The unit uses Tele atlas DX map software CD's, same as quintens. The unit boot sup with the skoda logo for a few seconds when switched on.

The unit has a TMC unit that is not part of the navigation unit. It not needed to get the navigation ubnit to work but functionality will be lost.

A Triplex combined radio, navi, and telephone aerial replaces the normal radio aerial. and has a slightly bigger base for the navi receiver.

The unit drives the OE 6 disk multichanger (panasonic manufactured) without addition interface.

The mulidot display can display route info when factory fitted.

The new costs of the pars IIRC are about

I've also got the Garmin Streetpilot 3 Deluxe and I love it. One of the best things is that you can move it from car to car. Useful if you use hire cars :D

Got mine from http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/ The site is good as it gives user reviews of most of the units and the mapping software. Found them to be very helpful and very prompt. Just spotted they do SATNAv for Palm OS units now, hmmm

It has a 11 pin RGB connection for TV video installation - thats a complex install so I have found out. However there is a unit taht fits into the 11pin socket available in the range of
