Is Fabia 1.2 HTP engine the same as VW Polo 1.2??

Featured Replies

Is the Fabia 1.2 HTP engine the same as the VW Polo 1.2. VW dealer says they are the same and are built in the same factory. Some mechanics say they are the same, others say they are not. Skoda dealer says the 1.2 HTP is a skoda engine and is not the same as the VW 1.2. Who is right???

The 1.2 is the VW Polo unit, also used in the SEAT Ibiza.

Im not 100% sure but i think only Skoda use the 6v version.

They are the same. VW do the 54 and 64 bhp versions, so 6V and 12V. I had the 6V polo as a courtesy car.

reason i wanted to know was that i have an oil leak that was seen by an AA mechanic when i broke down.(32K) he asked if it had been recalled by skoda as it was a known problem by vw and that new parts have been fitted by vw during servicing.Parts included new crankshaft seal, belt and o ring on crankshaft bolt. Asked service dept where i bought my car and they said it was a different engine. My engine is now waiting to be stripped down following timing chain problem(in previous post)

Yep, it's the same engine.

Skoda and VW both use both 6v and 12v versions.

And yes I used to do the recalls when I worked at SEAT on the Ibizas.

However ive not seen a Fabia leak like the Ibizas and Polos did, kinda thought as they were later than the SEAT and VW units they allready had the modified parts on them.

vw mechanic who noticed it said it would have been leaking from day 1. do not know yet if it has been a cause in my breakdown. main dealer cannot strip my car down until next monday or tuesday and will then contact skoda with a report. i have told them i will not pay to have repairs done if it has been caused by faulty parts. already had 2 passenger window regulators replaced 8 months apart. had to pay labour costs on the second one even though it was to replace a faulty part fitted by skoda dealer.skoda (Ireland) said in reply to my letters at the time that there was no problem with skoda parts.
