Octavia VRS 2015 Revo 3 conversion intermittent EPC light - Help!

Featured Replies

Helping someone can help!

I have a 2015 Skoda Octavia 2.0tsi DSG VRS with a Revo 3 conversion (owned from new).

Car was used by Revo for 1 week for development following the coversion by ADS in Preston.

Because people will ask Spec & Mods include:

Revo stage 3 engine remap.

Revo stage 2 gearbox remap.

Revo Carbon intake.

Revo big intercooler.

Revo Samco hoses.

Scorpion 3" non resonated decat exhaust.

Golf R hybrid turbo.

Eibach updated & lowered suspension.

Poly bushes all round.

Grooved/Dimpled front disks & red stuff pads.

EBC rear disks & yellow stuff pads.

15mm hubcentric spacers rear.

25mm hubcentric spacers front.

Running 235 35 19 PZeros (Pzero Corsas for track days) & 235 45 17 Uniroyal Winter Sports on et 35 Mercedes Steels for winter.

Superskoda Honeycomb front grill.

Superskoda extended rear spoiler.

Superskoda rear diffuser.

Lots of VCDS mods (too many to list!).

Full leather (red/black).

Columbus.

Lots of other bits and bobs...

Car has now done 65k with no real issues until now.

The picture is from Le Mans 24 hours back in June.

Now, the issue I have is that the EPC light is coming on intermittently- it's does not affect the drive at all but it does turn off the cruise control.

If I turn the car on/off it resets back to normal (if it's relevant I have also completely lost the road speed signs on the Sat nav - I have reinstalled new maps but to no avail).

I have done a full scan and nothing! The car can be fine for days, than it will let up the EPC light whenever I use it.

Anyone any ideas, it's driving me nuts!!!

Welcome.

What spark plugs do you run and what are they looking like when you checked them?

What coils are fitted?

Thanks for the reply, stupid really but I haven't checked the plugs - job to do now then, last changed at 40k so probably due....

Its running original coils....

You need to scan it if the EPC is being lit - it should be storing a code in the ECU. Could it be an intermittent issue with the brake light switch as that will disable cruise control.

An EPC light that does not store any code, suggests a fault with the actual ECU.  What tool was used for the full scan? If it wasn't VCDS there's a good chance any other tool failed to spot any intermittent fault codes. These will clear after a certain time if the fault doesn't happen again for some time.

I would bet pounds to pennies  there will be a lean misfire stored for one or more cylinders.

Thanks for the replies, I will first check the brake light switch as it's cheap!

I used VCDS to scan it, I will run another scan this evening and see what it throws up!

?

Have you removed the plugs, looked and replaced?

You can get the EPC light from misfires without enough in a cycle to store a code for misfires.

40,000 miles, and standard coils,

seems like almost all the gear without really achieving the best you can for the sake of spending a little more.

Thanks for the replies.

I will re-scan and whip the plugs out this evening, not sure what you mean by 'seems like almost all the gear without really achieving the best you can for the sake of spending a little more' - plugs were last changed 25 k ago, not 40 k ago (car has done 65 k) and I am currently running NGK Iridium Plugs (heat range 7)

Standard coils (when working) are more then sufficient for a stage 3 conversion, I panicked a little and phoned Revo this afternoon to double check and they recommended standard (or R8's if I wanted red tops!) - if you know of any better tried and tested coils please let me know as if that turns out to be the issue, I am intrigued by this option.

Interesting do the R8 red tops fit the Mark 3 TSi?

So, I had the plugs out and they are all fine.

I then rescanned and it turns out I have an intermittent fault on the Wastegate Actuator.

Time to get the turbo off and try to adjust, I have seen some youtube videos on this so I will give it a go - if anyone has any advice please let me know it would be appreciated.

Regarding the R8 coils, I am now not sure if they fit the Mark 3 tsi - I don't think they will as the Mark 3 ones are clearly bolted in (obvious now I have had them out!)
