Still at the garage!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi all, just thought l would post this to get it off my chest! Just as a recap we bought our kodiaq dealer registered with 110 miles on it a week last Saturday (30th june) the following Thursday it wouldn't start on my wife leaving her stuck with our toddler and 4 week old in the middle of nowhere - que hysterical phone calls yadda yadda and the skoda man came along an hour later (impressive) and it started first time (typical) but was showing a fault code with the starting system. It went to the dealer on the same day. A week later it is still at the dealer and 'should' be ready to pick up tommoro after having the starting module replaced. To say the whole saga has taken a shine off the new car is an understatement - l can barely remember what it looks like! All l keep getting from the dealer is the master tech this master tech that, he doesn't sound the master of anything at all... ln short we are so bloody annoyed we are actually thinking about rejecting the car now. This was the first new car we have ever bought and by far the most money we have ever spent on a car. I rue the day I told the wife there was no way we were buying and discovery sport as it would be unreliable! If this is a sign of things to come l would rather get rid now. Thanks for listening :) thoughts?

The dealer should hopefully be loaning you a Bear of the same spec.

I sympathise, but do hold on.  You’ve had just one problem (annoying and difficult though it is). When they say the problem is fixed, THEN you should start to consider.  If it works fine, keep it; if it keeps failing, reject it.

We have had a tiguan which has been fine and thankfully don't like it much :) l know what you mean Dave and have been very pragmatic the last week until today when l have just had enough really, l don't want to jump the gun and make a hasty decision. I am waiting for a call from skoda cs so will see what they say but am looking for extended warranty free service etc

Thousands of cars, may thousands of components.

Some of us have to be unlucky.

It's how the dealer, Skoda Assist and Skoda UK treat you that should count here.

Hi silver, l realise this is probably a one off, however very frustrating and now have a wife who will never really trust the car which is the problem really.

Must say tho that the skoda assist chap was fantastic and the tiguan  arriving was the next day was pretty good. Although we still have the kodiaq predecessor available still which is handy as well. And has actually been used the last few days as it has the required size boot for buggy, baby paraphenalia etc

That's weird I've been having starting issues with mine too. What were the symptoms with yours? Mine would turn over but just not fire. After I leave it for 5 mins come back and it starts fine.

Hi James, they replaced the starting module l think it was called, there was numerous waits for guidance from skoda technical and required the keys to be recoded. Worth getting it to the dealer and maybe get them to speak to Westgate skoda in Grimsby as it was a new one for them (aren't they all). Tbh I thought it was the wife but there was a fault code to check some terminals on the module I seem to recall. I wouldn't recommend sitting on it as it left the wife stranded only to start fine later as per your symptoms. My door handle is now creaking as well grrrr

The creaky interior grab handles do seem quite common place on both the Kodiaq and Karoq...

I can confirm mine creak and it is mildly annoying that something so obvious wasn't picked up on, or deemed enough of a concern to be addressed during the cars development.

Yeah I'll take it back to Exeter see if they can do any better. As u can probably see from my other post today the interior quality is not great. My handles creak too. I'm not sure if it's something to do with the umbrellas in the doors as I've turned them on their sides and the creaking gets better (if you know what I mean).

Carrs Skoda Exeter? Whenever I went to them with issues I just got the 'it is perfectly normal' line. Master Tech didn't seem to know what any issues were.

Haha, that sounds like Murray in Newton Abbot. Oh well I'll just keep travelling about until someone does something :D

I was playing around in the Skoda showroom last week while waiting for my cars service to be completed (I'm lucky and have a good local dealer near me whom I don't mind using).

As for handle creaks -  it seems to be a general problem on the bigger vehicles. I got obvious handle creaks in a brand new Superb, a Kodiaq, a Karoq and an Octavia VRS.

I got no creaks from a Rapid, a Fabia and a Citigo.

So, maybe the best way to lose the creaks is to downsize and save a **** load of money.  ;)

Been there too, they were even worse to be honest. I tried Exeter, Newton and Plymouth and eventually realised that they wanted none of it.

I'll slowly work my way north... Maybe Somerset garages will be different.

There's a number of skoda garages dotted along the M5. The one in weston-super-mare where I am I wouldn't overly recommend as they're still quite new and the service dept is a bit hit and mix. I only really use them due to them so local to me.

There's Carrs Skoda Bridgwater who seem pretty confident in what they are doing and are about.  Further to that there's one in Bristol as well.

Overall and if they were closer to me I would always go back to Sinclair skoda Swansea. Really nice group of people both in the sales and service department.

Best of luck to you. I've started to think that main dealer warranties are pointless, the amount of issues that I've had pushed aside if crazy

They are not Main Dealers Warranties,  your warranty is a Manufacturers Warranty.

Main Dealers are who check out the vehicles and repair the faults if there are any.

They seem to have become the keeper of the purse as the 'Manufacturer or Skoda UK get to be pith taking with poor Quality Control issues from the manufacturer.

Either way. My experience with both VW and Skoda warranty claims has been very poor.

I have had several warranty issues since I bought the car over six years ago including one that is ongoing, even now. I have had excellent support (Capitol Skoda, Newport, South Wales) from my dealer on these warranty claims, which has in all cases been successful. Your dealer is so important in pushing with your help as I on a couple of occasions went directly to Skoda UK to back up my dealer.

Good luck and persevere.
