Featured Replies

 Probably a obvious answer

Just about to pull the trigger on a Monte Carlo with dsg for the wife to drive and she commutes in town once a week

not sure if it will lurch or would it be ok in normal town traffic occasional gridlock like most city centres

should be fine wife drives into a city everyday MK3 monte 16 in traffic and its alwyas chocca.. then down motorway back home. She likes the stop / start function button but i cant cope with it so turn it off.

Fantastic in traffic and on the open road, just fantastic 2 pedal driving, only one pedal at a time though.

Pulled the trigger on it delivery in 10-days or so

Thank you

You won't be sorry! They are just brilliant in traffic and in any situation, as said by others. Just take time to learn how to drive it and you won't want to go back to a manual anytime. They are so smoooooth!

To protect the dsg clutches in traffic I used to move the stick from D to N (when stopped) and then back to D again to move off. It's only a small thing but, I believe, worth getting used to. After a while it becomes second nature.

Agree with wiganken1, I do the same. Re learning to drive a DSG:

1. Remember its got a conventional clutch, just like a manual.

2. That the brake pedal pressure is used by the software to control the clutch, you can also control stop/start with brake pedal pressure.

3. Reducing the brake pedal pressure allowing the DSG to engage the clutch before applying throttle.

If using Stop / Start function there is no need to go from D to N and apply the hand brake or sit with foot brake and brake light on.

When you are driving a car with Auto Hold no need to either.

But it is nice sometimes to have a DSG and the old styllee 'Hand Brake'.  Something that will soon be a thing of the past.

100% agree and can't believe I went back to a manual only to re-discover how good a DSG box really is.  For ultimate driver assistance twin DSG with adaptive cruise control.

Agree with all the above and especially the third point made by Thamestrader.  It requires less than a second's anticipation of the time you wish to move off, but it soon becomes second nature and stops any "lurching" when you press the loud pedal.

Also - in crawling traffic, I tend to put the lever into manual so that it holds first gear instead of slipping the clutch in second.  I'm sure I'm being over-protective but I love my DSG and wouldn't choose to go back to manual.
