CAT N Citigo - why was it an insurance write-off?

Featured Replies

I've seen a couple of 2013 Citigos advertised on the internet, adverts state that they were Cat N cars. What I don't get is that one advert says the car only had it's front bumper resprayed, why did an insurance company write-off a nice 2013 car if it only needed a bit of work done that I don't think would have cost more then half the value of the car. Can anyone explain?

Yes the Insurance Assessor can explain, or the repairer, maybe the person that owned it when damaged or the person that bought it.

As you said, an “advert”.

It doesn't take much for an insurer to write off a vehicle depending on its value.

Last year my bonnet got damaged by a LA gritter travelling in the opposite direction spraying grit out onto the opposite carriageway instead of directly behind. LA refused to pay for damage (possibly required the entire bonnet to be resprayed). My insurer stated they would pursue, but if unsuccessful, they would write car off as it would be cheaper than getting the bonnet resprayed.

I told them to drop the claim.

It just seems crazy, maybe I'm way out of touch with these things these days. I guess I need to ask the garage that's selling the car some specific questions and/or go look at the car myself.

?

Who is selling it?

I don't want to name garages but the cars are advertised on the autotrader website, there are a few Citigos and VW UP!s, quite new cars (5 years old max) that are CAT N having had seemingly very little damage.

A few Citigo listed but a good choice of various Category of insurance write off VW UP!.

Maybe says lots about the drivers / owners / keepers of these type of cars,  one not so careful or alert driver that might or might not need to renew their licence every 3 years.
