Octavia Vrs Buying Tips?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Have found loads of info on the Vrs from this great site but was wondering if i need to look for anything specific when buying?

I should be going to look at a 2001 Octavia Vrs Hatch with 66,000 miles on it.

Any help greatly appreciated

:) Hi and welcome... Just make sure it has been regularly serviced with the right oil...

Plenty of info; on here though to check what needs checking

I've just come back from looking at a yellow vrs. One thing looked out of place was that the fuel cap, rear spoiler and front bumper looked a slightly different shade to the rest of the car????

Is this common or am I looking at a Lemon(sorry!)

Ian

They are all plastic rather than metal which could explain a miniscule colour difference. What was the condition like otherwise?

mileage was 66k, two slightly kerbed alloys, interior in good nick. There was a noise from start up which sounded like the heaters on(cold start maybe?) Seemed to pull and stop ok. They guy wants £6000 with mot till may and some private warranty left.

oh! and the a'c made a squeeking noise when switched on but went off after 2-3 secs - Usual if it hasn't been used?

Could be the starter motor hanging on a little too long - common on the 1.8T, especially in cold weather.

i'd have a look at another couple of cars before making a decision...

obviously you want to get the best car for your budget... this car doesnt sound like the one to me.

from cold the engine can sound a little diesel like but after 5-10 seconds that shouldnt be audible.

if the heating system is used regularly then there shouldnt be any unusual noises, its worth noting that the climate system will be expensive to replace / repair as doing any work on it entails stripping the dash.

i can appreciate that a 4 year old car with 60K plus miles on wont be totally mint but i would walk away from a car that had scuffed wheels and mismatching paint no matter how slight the difference.

every other vRS i've seen no matter what colour had a perfect colour match from body to bumpers. the yellow shouldnt be any different.

good luck in your search though... you will find the car your looking for... just be patient.

Thanks Guys,

I didnt go for the yellow one after all. I've put a deposit on a Red Y reg with 39k miles on it. The garage is doing the 40k service for me and sorting out a few dings and stone chips.

Hope to have it by the end of next week

Ian

Excellent:thumbup:

Pick my '53 plate black vRS Estate up on Saturday. Another one unleashed from the dealer forecourt!

T-3hr for mine!

Make sure it's had the cambelt changed. GimpsI bought mine from at 66k had "full service history", which was a bunch of stamps in the book. Course, I didnt know to find out whether it had had all the work done that was meant to be done.

Check that out, and if it isnt, then knock off
