My new Karoq 1.6 TDI DSG Technology Pack arrived

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I'm a newbie here. I just picked up my new company car on Friday. It is a Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI DSG Technology Pack in Business Grey.

Ordered it end of March and arrived about 4 months later. So far I'm absolutely loving it. I will drive around 25K -30K miles per year in it because I'm a sales rep.

I would have gone for the 1.5 petrol, but was not available on our list.

Regards to you all Akos

1.6TDi DSG in my last car (SEAT Leon ST) was excellent. Enough go for confident overtakes and hill climbing / load lugging but really economical cruising. I would have happily spec'd that combo if it was available with 4x4 transmission. My 2.0TDi seems very thirsty in comparison

Nice Karoq - congrats!

At that mileage, the diesel makes £££ sense and I'm sure your employer factored that in when deciding what was on the list.

Tell us how what you think after you've had a chance to get used to it. I havent seen much feedback from 1.6d owners with DSG - they seem to be all manuals in Ireland.

Wicked! Keep us periodically updated on your mpg and tyre wear.

Is this the SE Technology trim, or a different model with the "Technology Pack" fitted?

Understand the company's decision to specify diesel only considering your annual mileage but based on my experience driving the wife's 1.5Tsi Karoq over the last 6 months you would have enjoyed it's power, refinement and flexibility.B)

Had a 1.6 tdi Karoq with DSG as a loan car recently whilst my Yeti was in for a service.

To be honest I found it a bit gutless and had to keep using sport and manual modes (I'm not a hard driver) to accelerate at a decent rate in city traffic which rather negates the advantage of having an auto.

Had DSG and auto in the past and rarely took them out of D, they were 2.0 tdi though.

Yes I completly agree. I use mine now in sport mode 80% of the time and I'm happy with it like that.

I think it's mainly down to the fact that they are now programmed to get into the higher gears at the earliest opportunity to aid fuel consumption - fine if you aren't competing with other road users!

When I had my Passat some years ago with the 6 speed DSG gear changes were closer to what I did in a manual and so I was comfortable with it.

Trouble with using sport in the Karoq was then I found it was holding onto the higher gears for longer than I would have wished and I was moving back into D. On the open road it was much better, though on even gentle inclines I was sometimes dropping down a gear or two to maintain speed.

A nice drive though and I'm sure if it was my car I'd adopt a driving style I was happy with - it's no hardship after all using the paddles or Sport though as I said it does defeat the object a little when having to "interfere" quite a lot.
