1.4 16v 2001

Featured Replies

Hello,

Does anyone know why the check engine doesn't go off when I switch the key on? It goes off when I start the motor but I want to do the mot and I don't know if it's normal for the check engine light to stay on when I turn the key.

Thanks.

Seriously, my experience is that the CEL goes out about the same time as the other BITE lamps (ABS, seatbelts, airbag(s), traction control if applicable), say 5s after switch on. If you think there's a fault, it will have thrown a diagnostic code.

On my 2003 (Polo 9N) 1.4 16V three lights stay on after all the others go off. Battery light, EPC and handbrake warning. On our 2005 Fabia 1.2 four lights stay on, the ''emission control system" one (picture of an engine) as well as the three I see on the Polo.

I believe this is normal on both cars. No warning lights on or known faults when engines are running.
