Fabia se tickover

Featured Replies

My friend has just bought a Fabia se 90 on a 17 plate from a main dealer he thinks the tickover is running to fast at 1k rpm my sel 90 runs at about 800 rpm. He has spoken to the dealers service dept nobody seemed to know what it should be more or less told it was controlled by the cars computer and could not be changed Joe

Mine sometimes idles at 1k, depends on the battery state of charge, temperature, load on the engine (AC, electricals), all sorts of things.

Mine the same.

As said, the engine tick over speed is variable and is dependant on a lot of things as mentioned by VC10. It is totally controlled by the ecu and cannot be adjusted. Normal tick over speed is in the region of 800rpm +/- 50rpm. However It will alter even during various journeys. The battery state is one of the most influencial factors affecting idle speed, as is engine temperature. If your friends car has been standing around for a few weeks at a dealers prior to him purchasing it the battery will have a depleted charge that will not be put back immediately until he has covered some good mileage to charge it without stop start and aircon being used etc. With the aircon on, the car's idles speed is 1000rpm normally. So your friends is likely completely normal.

Mine does that 18 SEL 110. Sometimes it drops to 950. Usually higher at the moment due to the AC working hard in the heat.

Mine is 1000rpm or just a fraction under
