Manual gearbox failure

Featured Replies

I’ve a 1.4 tsi 150 manual. It seems the gearbox has died. After it crashed going into 2nd, felt like clutch wasn’t down properly, but drove fine in all other gears. At a standstill it would not go into 1st. Currently sat with Skoda as they don’t have the tool to get into the gearbox!

Anyone with similar problem?

Be interesting to find out if it was the same problem that used to happen with the Sachs DMF / Clutches in that gearbox.

Sounds more like a clutch issue with it not going into 1st at standstill

Think the gearbox on this engine has an external clutch slave cylinder so if it is a hydraulic (slave or master cylinder) issue it's easier to fix without taking the gearbox off

All I know is they have removed gearbox from car and checked selectors are ok.

Get them to check the clutch pressure plate for damage too.

better safe than sorry

Had a Golf. Sometimes it would not go into 1st at a standstill, bugger at lights having to turn off the engine, put it in 1st, restart and drive off. Went in for 10,000 mile service, told dealer I thought the clutch was deformed/dragging and he said unlikely. Went to collect and asked if they had found an issue, told me it was the clutch. replaced FOC. Drove another 100,000 over 6 years and no more issues.
