Columbus keeps auto muting with spotify

Featured Replies

Took the new YAK out for its maiden voyage today. Seem to be suffering an issue where the Columbus keeps auto muting when listening to spotify over bluetooth connection. Seems that it appears to be more isolated to just when using spotify than any other audio app on my phone which seems odd.

It is the columbus muting as it brings up the mute symbol and then if i press the volume wheel on the steering wheel in to unmute it, it carries on playing music again. Just seems rather odd as it never does it on the MK3 fabia and while on the phone i have no issue either.

May have a go at resetting the bluetooth pairing between them and see what that does.

Not necessarily - the mute symbol also comes up if you pause the music. Could it be buffering issues in Spotify or something stupid like that?

Could well be. I will have a look at reinstalling spotify and see if that makes a difference.

Does it happen when you connect directly via USB? (CarPlay/AndroidAuto) If so it’ll definitely be what WiggosSideBurns has suggested and reinstalling the app won’t help. Have you got a sim installed in the Columbus system, you’d get a better signal doing that and using the cars WiFi hotspot. Or if you’ve got a phone box it’ll increase your network signal with the right mobile phone.

Not if the car was delivered since April! They are disabling this feature on every car they sell. The  wireless charging feature is left intact but the signal boost is disabled. I'm not sure if they also disable it on existing cars which go in for a service.

Are they even still fitting the wireless charging to Edition models? We ordered our SEL with the wireless charging option, and it simply wasn’t fitted (rather than them just disable the signal booster)

Yes fine via AA. Just seems odd as don't have the same issue when connected via BT on the fabia.

Car was delivered last week so it is a bit puzzling.

Not sure if I have the wireless charging installed as my phone cannot be charged wirelessly and very much doubt the signal booster has been installed but that doesn't really bother me. I don't really fancy paying for an extra sim for my car when I can just use my phone's hotspot. It certainly doesn't struggle with signal either as data works fine.

Must be some form of issue between Spotify, my phone and the YAK.

Have to wait and see if it solves itself on the next update. The muting is very sporadic. Can go a song or two without happening then happen twice in one song. Just seems odd that it doesn't happen with anything else or other apps.

If it was a buffering issue it would also happen when connected to android auto which is the bit if find confusing.

Could it be that it happens when your phone gets other notifications such as email or WhatsApp messages?

Since having used android auto a couple of times. The Bluetooth issue seems to have resolved. Quite possibly could have been a recent update that solved it instead but have to wait and see.

I had this exact problem on my 2016 model a week or two ago with auto pause about every 10 seconds. I use Spotify downloaded playlists so didn't think it was a buffering problem.

It drove me nuts for about a week, then suddenly stopped, but absolutely no idea what solved it.

If that's the case I would put it down to an issue Spotify was having in terms of playing over Bluetooth.

As her indoors was saying she had a similar issue with Spotify on her Bluetooth speaker that she mentioned about when I said about this.

I'm just glad that it seems to be solved now. Even if there was no real rhyme or reason as to why

I lied. It happened again today on the way home from work. Very odd
