Mk1 Vrs issue

Featured Replies

Hi I’m wandering if anyone can shed any light on my problem, if I get in my fab first thing on a morning it fires up first time no issues at all, if I go to the shop and turn it off and then get back into it it dosent start straight away that’s where the issues start . .  I can be driving 30 and it drops to 10 like hitting a brick wall ( like into limp mode) can have my foot right to floor and it just shakes and rumbles then sometimes it will gain speed again and other times it will just shut off, had it for its timing done, that was a waste of £75, it does bring up camshaft position sensor fault is worth changing these, also heard it could be a wiring loom that runs through the engine or maybe egr clogged? The car has done 90,000 and has had two owners including me, great condition and the best service history and receipts I’ve ever seen for a car, even the original Skoda key is unused from new, I really want to keep the car but I’m loosing to will to live with it, can anyone shed any light

thanks

@Milnez1991 - I think your answer is in your question; you have a camshaft position sensor fault, and tried timing the camshaft without replacing said sensor!

Well yeh you would think that would be the problem. But I’m not a mechanic and the mechanic assured me it wouldn’t be that and said it isn’t often these fault, he just said your timing will be out and thats what’s causing it, so never replaced the sensor, do you think it’s worth replacing the camshaft sensor

If the cars saying there's something with a sensor then chances are it's the sensor.

Replace the sensor and see how the car runs. If it's the same then at least you can start looking else were rather than running round the houses and ignoring what the cars telling you.

@Milnez1991 - Well, the cam position sensor is what measures the camshaft position, and hence controls the fuel timing.

Do you have any evidence of black smoke either at high throttle low revs (under 1_500), hard into the governer (if you can get there which I'm not sure you will), or on upchanges?

When the problem starts,  limp mode and rattling there’s a small amount of black smoke but nothing major

@Milnez1991 - Well, that's proof right there that the fuel timing is out. The cam timing doesn't suddenly move several degrees by itself, which is more evidence of the issue being sensor or wiring.

I’ll try the camshaft sensor then see if there’s any joy from that, thanks for the advice
