have a look on cliosport for more cars for sale

Have registered as a member on there to get a few opinions/advice, don't think I would be willing to travel across the water to get a car, sounds like a lot of hassle although with cheap flights it might not be too hard on the pocket...

well there are more cars over here to buy so i suppose you have to take that into consideration. there arnt many owners over there i must admit

MPG wouldn't be much different to Octy, besides don't really see the benefit of diesel with it being so expensive at the minute, and prefer the noise of a petrol engine, major part of the whole driving experience for me...

yeh it's soo expensive 4 p difference.

I cant the clio as having as many problems as I had with my vrs. The solid vag build quality is a myth. Would you not conisder the mk1 clio renaultsport?

I'm really looking for a newer car than my current '01 Octy, I do like the Mk1, maybe if there was a pristine one about, there is one advertised in Autotrader, about 100 miles away from me but don't have the time/motivation to go and see it when there is a Mk2 60 miles away that I'm more interested in.

Sounds as if you've pretty much made your mind up on this Clio ?

My mate had a 182 cup and even though it was really quick, like's been said on here a few times, Renault are very fragile cars. He had nothing but issues with his car and his dealer.

I had a NEW Megane (which was the same) and you should do some homework on the brand as in the recent Auto Express customer survey Renault were nothing short of disgraceful. :thumbdwn:

If it's a short ownership proposition for a quick run about then you takes your chances. But you have been warned.

 The wife's Clio wont eject the CD. Total pain. Any ideas??

That it may be. BUT not in relation to Renault it isnt!!! Been there, read the book........etc.

VAG and Renault are simply miles apart!

Drive the car over a cliff and there's a strong possibility you'll find the CD in the wreckage. ;)

Seriously Chris, if it won't come out by the normal means, the chances are that you'll have to remove the head unit and unscrew the body. Of course, if it's in warranty, then it's the dealers domain. (Hmmm Renault dealers...... )

A trip to Skipton next Saturday by the look of it. Bleeding French cars!! NEVER AGAIN!!

I almost bought a 182 before the Octy. (I actually had a 1.4 16v Dynamique at the time) They are fantastic cars to drive, very responsive, quick, and very good around bends... Unfortunately they don't feel as well put together compared to the Octy. BUT it is a very fun car! :D

But I am glad I bought the octy in the end...

SWMBO likes the car. It has a lot of good features but they use poor quality materials in making it. It simply does not compare in terms of build quality.

I tried out a Clio 182 when looking to replace the Octy, it's slightly quicker and the handling is definitely superior on corners - BUT - it doesn't have the same build quality and just doesn't feel such a solid car. Plus you'll have to pay extra for the Burberry baseball cap !

Have moved on from thoughts of 172 Clio now, having crazy ideas about all sorts of cars as some of my more recent threads have explained, currently mulling over the idea of an 01 Mondeo ST200 limited edition...

01 Mondeo ST200 limited edition...
please dont pay over the odds for any ford product ,just remember this word , depreciation ,defo a better cruiser than a clio but then you may miss the chuckability/handling/fun of the clio

Had bad experience with the Renault dealer that has now moved out of Abingdon, they basically wrecked my car - went in with a minor fault & a few weeks after the cooling ceased (sp?) in the area surrounding the 'fix'. More than likely caused by not properly bleeding the system of air and causing a lurvely lack of coolant flow... I was pretty p*ssed at the time.

Not all Renaults are bad, older ones were more reliable. Problem with most French cars seems to be the electrics/electronics aren't the most reliable, and more and more gadgets are being added to cars that use that kinda stuff, so reliability suffers even more.

On the plus side they seem like great fun to drive, and I'm sure there are good dealers out there too :)

Petrol vs diesel is a never-ending one, both have their own benefits and problems, IMHO diesel is great for doing higher mileage and petrol is great for all-out hot-hatching, as it sounds great when revved. Either way, both types of car in this thread are petrol anyway :D

My brothers 172 cup with no back seats, induction kit, decat and a remap can do the 0-50 in 5.6 and a 1/4 mile in 14.1.

Ther are very quick

One near me is relatively expensive but low miles and is limited edition spec (blue/black Recaro interior, heated front windscreen, cruise etc), should be able to haggle a better price, need to get a test-drive to experience the V6 engine, supposed to sound sublime, although very similar performance to Octy and mpg/running costs are worse, damn you Ford tempting me with your special editions...

The ST220 is a VERY nice car if a little thirsty.

Is it the ST200 (Mk2 Mondeo - '93-'00) or the ST220 (Mk3 Mondeo - '01 onwards)? I believe the Mk2 only came with the 2.5 V6, whereas the ST220 comes with the 3.0 V6 and very sorted handling :D

Also not aware of any special editions that were released of the ST220, but I could be wrong! :D

As for depreciation - that really isn't going to be an issue on a 5 year old car

It's an '01 old-shape ST200 Limited Edition, brought out to commemorate Ford winning their fourth BTCC title or something similar, see here http://www.fasterfords.com/mondeo-st200.htm, blue/black interior is the limited ed. one, normal St200s had plain black interior (which I reckon actually looks better), all looks a lot less ergonomic/nicely styled than today's interiors (even compared to same-age Octy), but am hoping the way the car drives/sounds/looks externally will make up for what it lacks in style internally...

Hope you like blue! Only thing I've read about the ST200 are the "wooden" brakes. Not driven one myself but I've seen it mentioned by a few of the owners. I'm sure that can easily be fixed though with some uprated discs and pads

Thought the blue interior was a bit ott, but then looked at an Focus RS interior and it is pretty blue too, will have to see it in the flesh before I decide if I could live with it!!! The brakes are the same as on the lesser 2.5 V6 (correct me if wrong) but hopefully could get a decent det of pads/discs on it

brakes on the st220 are the same as on any other mk3. expect the latest revision apparently fixes this!
